Right, am just finishing my balikbayan box which I'm sending today and I have written a card just for Viva, but I also have another one for her mum, sister and Viva. Now I'm not sure what to call her mum when I write it in the card? Just Mrs. ******* (her surname)? But it seems maybe a bit too formal? I have met her by the way if that makes any difference?! What's the right protocol here?! :Erm:
Any help greatly appreciated! :xxgrinning--00xx3:

I hope I'll be able to help you with that, but this is just my thought. What's her mum like to you? If she's formal and strict and may take time to warm up to another person, stick to formal way of addressing a person like Ma'am or Mrs. But if she's a friendly person and since you've meet her already, go with the first name bases. Just an idea. :)

Should have said that although I have met her, it was briefly twice and for most of the day another time with Viva so haven't got to know her that well yet.
Would tita not be right? Or would sound strange to write that, then Viva's and her sister's names?

Depends on how formal you want to be really Tim. When I first met Charie's mother, I called her 'Nanay' right away, which I think gave her the impression that I was sincere more than being formal and maybe more distant. How did you find her when you met? Did she warm to you or was she stand off-ish ?

You can call her mama or nanay, she will like it if she's not (as Steve said) standoffish. You can call a lady Tita if she's old enough to be your mother. But if she's just a decade older than you, calling her Tita might offend the lady that you find her old. But I dont think it really matters if you'll call her Nanay, Tita, or by her first name, coz it's the thought that counts.

Those two kids at the back seem to be scared of you... hehehe
My hubby call her by her first name when they first met... but when he started calling her "nanay", she love it...:)

Believe it or not, in that village the majority of the kids HADN'T seen a white man before, nevermind a lunatic like me. :icon_lol:
Didn't even have TV there.
That was waaay up in the mountains and miles from any big towns or highways.
I even got permission from the NPA before going (some of whom could well have been partying with me. ;)).

We brought cases and cases of it on Carabaos.:D
Going home several miles down muddy tracks with only a flickering torch was the fun bit....especially when you're blind drunk.
Me and the ex kept falling over and looked like a couple of mud-wrestlers when we got back. :icon_lol:
Happy days. :)
