Pakistan cricketers Salman Butt and Mohammad Asif have been found guilty of their part in a "spot-fixing" scam after a trial at Southwark Crown Court.

Former captain Butt, 27, and fast bowler Asif, 28, were both found guilty of conspiracy to cheat and conspiracy to accept corrupt payments.

They plotted to deliberately bowl no-balls during a Lord's Test match against England last summer.

Another bowler, Mohammad Amir, admitted the charges prior to the trial.

The guilty pleas by the bowler, who was 18 when the scam took place, could not be reported before.

The jury was not told of these pleas.

BBC sport news correspondent James Pearce says all three are facing the prospect of jail terms.

Lets not kid ourselves that match fixing is limited to Pakistani cricketers. There have been many allegations of fixing in many sports over the years, including British sportsmen or teams.

And don't forget, everyone knows that when Chelsea have won the Premier League it was a fix :laugher:

:icon_lol:

Bit like the way untold referees have been on the Manc payroll for years.

I can't stomach cricket but in the main these betting scams seem to involve Pakistan - William Hill & Co must be glad they don't have any shops over there.

It's just been pointed out on Talk Sh1te that the News of The world was responsible for bring this particular scam into the open.

I'm looking to see severe sentences that will send a cold shiver through Fat Boys Dad :D

What do you expect from a country where corruption and hypocrisy (all good muslims ) is a way of life from top to bottom ? :NoNo:

They might change their tune if "Shariah law" made them lose a few limbs for being involved in gambling

Indeed, but as with most religions, followers tend to be picky about which part of the doctrine is adhered to.

As an atheist, obviously I'm a bad evil man to the core, and will be heading for the fiery furnace anyway. :cwm3:

....Which makes me think.

Crematorium. What's that all about then ?:Erm:

Sentences far too lenient but at least they've been locked up

Former Pakistan cricket captain Salman Butt has been jailed for 30 months for his part in the conspiracy to bowl deliberate no-balls in last year's Test match against England.

Former world number two Test bowler Mohammad Asif, 28, was jailed for one year and bowler Mohammad Amir, 19, has been sentenced to six months.
