Hello there songz (John), a warm welcome here to the forum.
I'm sure you'll discover a gold-mine of information to help.
Make no mistake, there are plenty of hoops you need to jump through whenever you strike up a relationship with someone from another country.
It's important to realise and understand that.
Maybe it's already too late for you :D
Have you yet decided this relationship is worth a face to face meeting on the other side of the world?
Step by step is the key if you've only just begun. Plenty of time to consider the details of marriage and visa's.
The longer you stay the clearer everything becomes.
Take care.:xxgrinning--00xx3:

Hi and welcome to the forum:xxgrinning--00xx3:
I wouldn't worry about forms and paperwork yet if you've only just started a friendship. I'f you've not been over there yet, my advice is to get yourself out there as soon as funds permit and meet her and her family, see her environment, how she is at home and see the country before you even consider any form filling. I've been back and forth many times in the last 2 years and still no nearer filling any forms in;)

Hi John, and welcome to the forum from me too. :xxgrinning--00xx3:
It may be a long road (literally) to travel, but hopefully you'll find it life-changing and well worthwhile in the end.
I'm currently in about the same situation as yourself, although I do have some 'previous'. :)

Hi guys, good advise from you all looks like I made the right choice to join up.
Yes Its a long way off yet, my first port of call is to really become established friends, emailing lots every day, and chatting on video / audio skype ... then I guess if we are still going strong and stronger in 6 months .. I would have to think about visiting and seeing her for real and her folks and well gives me time to learn tagalog as well, as I will need that to help me! Thanks again, chaps :) I will be here more often now.
take care John

Thanks again my dear new friends I am very grateful to you all. At the moment I am just getting to know a lady from Davao province. Next step is to begin to learn Tagalog which I am doing, and if we are still strong in a few months time, then I will have to plan a 10 day holiday and visit her, then we shall both really know if there is something special to happen. Having feelings by skype, photos and video chats and texts may be very sweet, but real life must say "you need to meet" before you can really be in love. Thanks ervyone very much. john

No offence intended John, but maybe you should learn a little Bisaya as she is from Davao and that's where you will eventually visit?
Just an idea.
Especially for the parents.

Concerning learning the language, I hope these links can also help you.
Visayans mostly refer to their languages as Bisaya.
"Gihigugma Ko, Gayod Ikaw!" ...I love you very much! In Bisaya (I think, ......also my spelling may not be correct)
For a Cebuano form of Bisaya look here:-
http://www.qasana.com
It's really a lot different to the National language Tagalog
For Tagalog language, Rosetta Stone is quite popular but also very expensive.
Another good choice for Tagalog may be BYKI (Before You Know It)
Look here:-
http://www.byki.com
It's free.
One thing is that this also have vocalisations, so you can hear how a word is pronounced.
Other very useful sites are:-
http://www.omniglot.com/language/phrases/tagalog.php
http://www.forvo.com/languages/tl
Both of these sites have Bisay/Cebuano and Tagalog just check for the language menu
Hope it will be useful for you.
Happy learning

Hope you enjoy your trip to Mindanao :) Its a nice place to kick around,CDO is ok,everyone will appreciate you learning the language, even just enough to make them think :icon_lol: Scrap the tagalog, thats my advice, concentrate on visayan,a little at a time and build up your vocab, before you know it the words turn into sentences,my grammar was shot to crap when I first started but its like a jig-saw,pieece by piece till the picture starts to form,I know people in Mindanao who dont speak more than a few words of tagalog and they were born there, get a decent visayan phrase-book and start learning, theres guys been married to pinays for years who speak no more than a dozen or so words,so your a novelty ;) Enjoy your trip :)

Glad you receive your visa, but as I've said before the keys are having sufficient reason, sufficient finances and sufficient reasons to return home before expiry of visa.
Insufficient reasons to return are on balance the most common cause of refusal.
The visit visa is not as easy to secure as you may think or suggest.
The very low cost of the visa is a solid, low risk approach.

Yep, fall in love....meet the lady in person and then hopefully stay in love.
Take it from there.
They've got to make the old heart race a bit to get you running for that plane and endure the tedious 20 hour journey.
Bear in mind though, I HAVE been scanning the dating sites for about 4 years now, and reckon to have a reasonable understanding of Filipino culture and thought processes, after being backwards and forwards to the place for over 20 years including spells of residence of up to 3 years and having had 12 years of marriage to a Filpina. ;)
Doesn't guarantee success or compatibility, but does mean that the rose-coloured specs went years ago.
