Any body seen the new cameras on the M1 between J11 and 10 going south ( will be North eventually as well)..............they are literally 100 yds apart and facing against the flow of the traffic...........what is the point of them ...theres plenty on there anyway apart from them.....but u have to see it to believe it.........as i say about 100 yds apart.

Waaay OTT and smacks of Big Brother........anyone know what they are about??

big brothers watching you :yikes: them things can see the every fine detail not just the car and no/plate,
the hair on the back of your hand m the hair you didnt see,if your smoking or using mobile phone, i guess if they can get your face it will give face recognition , i mean they are not just to look at cars

Not been on the M1 for ages but they might be ANPR Cameras theres a fair few round this way Berks/Surrey and last week on the A24 in Sussex I saw some way up on 25' poles. I'm OK with them as they nab tax dodgers, crims and terrorists

WOW. Why so many, so close together, I wonder?

Are they classic roadwork speed cameras as elsewhere they are usually frequently spaced and check your AVERAGE speed over a set distance. If your average is above the limit then you get a letter in the post etc....

watch your speed and smile, but keep both hands on the wheel, then all will be ok:)

Yep, can't beat that face recognition technology.

10 family members sharing the one provisional licence doesn't help either.

Still, rules is rules...for US.

Had to go to London yesterday and thought id count them ..........between j10 and 11 there are at least 30 cameras ..........i lost track for a bit so theres more .....................remember this in on the south side only , they are still being put in going north.
Im very uneasy about it...............

Ah what a great revenue earner the downtrodden motorist is...despite the fact that the motorways are the safest roads in the country and our road accident/death rate is probably amongst the lowest in the world.

Still, if it catches the scumbags with no insurance/licence etc, I'm all for the cams. :xxgrinning--00xx3:

Nothing to hide, nothing to fear as they say. :)

You just have to stick within the speed limit and you are okay. Pain in the :action-smiley-081: I know but that is what they are for.

Interesting article about ANPR cameras here

"Cundell's car has one ANPR camera, mounted on the front windscreen. Its footage appears on a screen on the dashboard; as a vehicle comes into the frame its numberplate is outlined and read. If there is a "hit" from one of the several databases the system checks against, an alert sounds and details are displayed onscreen."

I was tootling along in Aberdeen one evening and a brand new unmarked Beamer behind me started flashing lights (no siren) and accelerating past me as its ANPR camera had clocked such an offender not too far away and was a doing a u turn and going back for the "kill". Next second...smash....it had accelerated into the car in front of me that was turning right. Clearly the police officers fault......I had to submit many statements on that one...

i dont believe for one moment its anything to do with speed........................they are so close together, facing against the flow of traffic...................i defy anyone who sees it for themselves not to feel uneasy with it....................ive nothing to hide like most of the population ..............but its plain and simply WAY over the top..............how much has it cost (so far).................who was consulted, what gives ''THEM'' the right to do it

Are they like this?

Coincidentally I was staying in Luton just after christmas. And I do recall the roadworks there. And the average speed cameras. Junction 10 and 11. I used both exits. I used it as a springboard for trips into London with Mrs Lastlid.

Yes. They are closely spaced. But I have seen them in use in many other places in the UK including Scotland, wherever there are extensive roadworks on the motorway or dual carriageways.
