A man who masterminded an immigration scam which sought to help people to stay in the UK illegally has been jailed following an investigation by our officers.

i think this 'scam' will increase alot more if the gov set a minimum income to bring spouses here.

Anyone from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) who is sentenced to 12 months or more in prison is automatically eligible for deportation on completion of their sentence.
Proceeds of Crime Act proceedings, designed to confiscate any money Patel and Makwana may have made from the scam, have now begun.

Surely it would save a few quid just to deport them straight away. Although it will be interesting to see if those who get 12 months or more in prison do actually get deported

That is the nub of the problem with a slack outfit like the UKBA many don't. There should be an automatic booking for cuffs, burly escorts and a prison van straight to Heathrow on release day
