Man who lent his identity jailed

A man who allowed his identity to be used by 2 illegal immigrants so they could get jobs and stay in Britain has been jailed for almost 4 years, following our investigation.

Nigerian national Uzezi Samuels Elor, 50, of Ecclesbourne Road in Thornton Heath was granted settlement in the UK in 1992, and as such was allowed to live and work here.

Investigators discovered that he allowed his identity, and his passport, to be used by 2 other men, both Nigerians in the UK illegally, to make it look like they had the right to work in the UK.

Money earned by them was paid into Elor's bank accounts. He then claimed this income as his own when he applied for a mortgage.

Both of his co-conspirators were then jailed for ID offences, one has already been removed from the UK.

On Monday 23 April at Croydon crown court Elor pleaded guilty to 2 counts of facilitating a breach of immigration law, and 1 count of fraud by false representation. He was jailed for 3 years and 9 months.

Tanzila Sattar, South London immigration crime team, UK Border Agency said:


'Elor knowingly let his identity be used by two other people to help them get work and stay in the UK when they had no right to.

'He attempted to undermine the UK's immigration laws and we will now look to revoke his right to live in the UK and deport him once he has served his sentence.'

Anyone from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) who is sentenced to 12 months or more in prison is automatically eligible for deportation on completion of their sentence.

Crime Act proceedings, designed to confiscate any money Elor may have made from the scam, have now begun.

Our South London criminal and financial investigation team is a specialist unit of police officers seconded from the metropolitan police working alongside our warranted officers to investigate organised immigration crime.

Yes it would be interesting to know if these people get deported after their sentence. Why not save the Tax Payer a few bob and deport them now.

Logic and common sense don't apply when the authorities deal with these scum. It's probably all part of a scheme so they can rack up legal aid whilst pursuing spurious cases/claims/appeals whilst in jail - Cheri Blair is probably behind it

It's quite simple the facilitators of illegal immigration are scum along with the illegals themselves who by working in the black economy increase unemployment for UK workers and legal immigrants

This lot are as much scum and filth as "proper criminals" they have evaded procedures and checks to enter the country and could be paedophiles, terrorists, mass murderers or carriers of infectious diseases. They are cheating the government out of tax revenue and the legal working age population out of jobs.

So in your book if you are desperate enough to go and live somewhere it's OK to break that countries laws to acheive it ?

I've felt for a while that Australia would be a better place for me (they deal with illegals and foreign criminals a bit more robustly there) - I'd better make my way to Indonesia and see if I can jump on a trafficking boat there.

That's incorrect. You don't need fake identities to get fake jobs. They used the fake identity to get real jobs and pay real taxes. Had they gotten fake jobs they'd still be here.

Model citizens abide by the law these grubs don't. Of course I read the article - Nigerian engaged in his nations speciality, fraud, is caught and rightly jailed

How do we know there's worse out there this lot haven't been checked out. You have a cosy assumption that these people are desperate for work rather than being fugitives and ner do wells. I can't fathom out why you believe the UK should provide employment for all these waifs & strays.

They broke the law end of and that guy is probably one of many and should be deported.
