View Full Version : Hello all, I need some advice

I’m very desperate for help and advice. I will be 59 in December and I hope to visit my girl friend in the Philippines in November 2007, which will be the third time. We have known each other for 2 years, communicating on the internet several times a week. We love each other very much.
I’m satisfied that we have the requirements for her to settle in the UK accept I‘m worried that I‘m unemployed. Her English is very good, she wants to get employment in the UK mainly to help with the bills etc. I own my flat and I have £43,000 in savings. I don’t get any financial benefits at all. I live off my savings and the interest from them. My health is not so great which is why I’m unemployed.
I realise that I need to pay at least £500 for a settlement visa.
So my question is:- being unemployed do I have a glimmer of hope that she would be allowed to settle in the UK so that we can eventually marry?
I’m very concerned that may be I need to have employment as an essential requisite before things can get off the ground. I don’t want to waste money and peoples time if being unemployed is a none starter.
I appreciate any help very much.
Kind regards:)
David

Penny!
Thanks so much for your reply. Did your brother in-law fail on the requirements necessary for a settlement visa?

That's alot of money, think it is enough for them to show that you can support her.

You only need £2-3000 in the bank usually, and rented house, so you have more than enough.
If she wants to work here, you need to marry in the Phil, and get a spouse visa.

She lives about 30 miles from Manila in a place called Cavite. Thanks for your suggestion about marrying in the Phils. I might just do that.:)

Hi Dave,
You don't say how long you have been unemployed, but if it's not been too long; I mean long enough for them to assume that your never going to work again, I'd say, that with the level of savings you've got and the fact that you own your own flat, there's a very good chance that you will get a visa.
Iain.

Hi Iain!
Thanks for replying. Unfortunately I've been unemployed since 1993, which is along time. I've been trying ever since to make money from oil painting. I advise anyone not to do that. Thank you for your encouragement. I've been worrying for weeks about my chances of getting a visa. Thanks again Iain.

Like all the others i think you should be ok with a well presented application.
Basically the ECO wants to see your wife to be and you are not going to ponce off the state. The fact you don't claim at present even with out a job looks like good evidence for that:xxgrinning--00xx3:

Hi Ricky, Gemma, my future wife from Davao applied for a fiance visa this March and got it end of April taking nearly 7 weeks. Ive also been told Gem can work straight after our marriage if she wishes, her future employer will be able to obtain the national insurance number. We've checked this out with UKVACS and it seems what we have been told by a friend of ours from Goa is right. Good Luck Ricky

Regarding the ni number it depends on your employer if they can apply for Gemmas NI number places like the NHS i think can apply and other companies with a special agremment (i read this up about two years ago so forgive me if i sem a bit vague). But for most people joining a company they will need to apply themselves by ringing up for an appoiment.
Just putting a note there as your situation maybe differnt, but as not to confuse others in the same situation.

Thanks 'andypaul' for the reply. Gemma doesnt really know what she wants to do yet, workwise anyway. Gemma says she will grow bored at home with me working as well. It's something Gem will look at later I guess, it's entirely her choice.
