These things are never simple. The Banaue rice terraces are probably the most important remnant of ancient Filipino culture - they are to the Philippines what the Acropolis is to Greece or Stonehenge is to Britain.

But unlike those, the terraces need to be actively maintained and farmed using the old methods.

I'm told that, unfortunately, some people have had a bright idea and used concrete in the irrigation ditches...which this variety of rice does not care for...so maybe the terraces need to go back on the list...
