This applies only to the Isle of Man and although there are differences between the process and the process in the UK there are also many similarities.

I paid a visit to the Isle of Man Immigration today on Prospect Hill. Just walked in. No queue and no appointment necessary.

All requirements are outlined on the form SetM : APPLICATION FOR INDEFINITE LEAVE TO REMAIN IN THE ISLE OF MAN AS THE PARTNER OF A PERSON PRESENT AND SETTLED IN THE ISLE OF MAN

http://www.gov.im/lib/docs/cso/immigration/setmmay2012.pdf

Valid for use from 1st May 2012

The fee for applying for ILR in the Isle of Man
If you are a sole applicant on form SET(M) and no dependants are applying with you, there is a fee of £991. This is a flat fee. There is no surcharge for delivering by hand. In fact they prefer to see the applicants rather than have applications posted.

Life in the UK Test
This can be taken at the local college in Douglas ( Tel 648237 ). The test fee is £60 and can be taken on the first wednesday of every month with just 2 weeks notice and the results are available the day after the test.

A supplement to the UK Life in the UK Test books can be purchased for £2.50 called Life in the Isle of Man. Of the 24 Life in the UK Test questions asked, 6 of them will be on Isle of Man related material.

For example:

During which month is the open air Tynwald ceremony held each year?

a] May
b] June
c] July
d] September

BRP (Biometric Residence Permit)

No such requirement on the Isle of Man

Hi Lastlid

Thanks for the info. I started work in Douglas this week and also visited Immigration yesterday (straight in no queues either :) ) as I was renewing my taxcode (cant get the full £18k married couple allowance till she is here though) Nice chap said he would look out for my application next year and was very helpful in explaining the process of how the Border Agency forwards the applications on and that he normally makes a decision and turns them round in a day.

:xxgrinning--00xx3:

Yes, that's what happened with ours. My wife's spouse visa took about 14 days all in all including IOM handling time.

Actually the killer question is why? are there three legs on the flag. Nobody seems to know.

Oh come on - the answer is on our coat of arms translated as 'which ever way you throw me I will stand'

Could be a delaying factor in "not have a leg left to stand on" ?

I had better prime the Mrs on that. :xxgrinning--00xx3: I am from "across", so I am not well up on this stuff.

Having had a flick through...actually this does indeed feature in the Life in the Isle of Man Supplement so Mrs Lastlid will need to know this.

Hi Lastlid and everyone

I'm from Isle of Man and been here for 2 years now..

I know this post was 2012 and some requirements have changed for ILR now.

I'll take my Life in UK test this coming April and now Applicants for ILR need to take the speaking and listening test as well as an additional requirements. I read that its B1 Level, I had A1 level before with my fiancé visa requirements.

I'm just wondering if it's kind of the same process? Because in speaking I had interview (random topic) and with listening I did listen to conversations and answered questions. (With other two, writing and reading)

Regards
