Best quote I've seen lately regarding Apple is with regard to their rip off iPad compared with the new Google £150 job

Not sure I would call this a 'budget tablet', it is manufactured by ASUS - who have a much better reputation for quality than Foxconn.

The basic iPad costs Apple less than £100 to produce. Apple then slap on £300 profit and sell it to mugs with more money than sense.

The production cost of this tablet is probably not dissimilar, but Google have decided to treat its customers with a bit more respect and not screw every last penny out of them.

I quote from Dedworth :icon_lol:

Its probably worth noting that the recent court ruling in the USA will have a knock on effect on Samsung's marketing in the tablet and mobile market.

But seriously, there's plenty of comparisons out there. Here is one:

"Compare this Samsung tablet to the iPad 3 and you’ll never, ever be able to settle for the Galaxy Tab. The iPad 3 has 2048 x 1536 pixels across its 9.7-inch surface while the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 has 1280 x 800 pixels across its 10.1-inch surface – that’s 264 pixels per inch for the iPad while the Galaxy Tab has 149 pixels per inch. No contest."

"Personally, I’d rather have an iPad than a Galaxy Tab, but not because one is better tuned than the other. I like the vastness of the accessories market for the iPad, the app store has the games and apps I want right away, and it still seems as though Apple’s support network is the better choice in the end."

So for now Lasltid. what is a good brand phone to use Iphone 4S or Samsung galaxy SIII? :)

Thanks.

Ann. Go with the one you like best and can afford. Its all about taste and pocket really. I know when I buy my next phone I will look at both. These products are changing rapidly. When I bought my iPhone, there was less competition about. When I buy my next smart phone, I will keep an open mind and look closely at whats on offer.

Am I right in saying that they are a similar price now? I just looked on Carphone Warehouse and the Galaxy SIII is over £500 pounds now?

By the way, remember that the iPhone 5 is due out soon....

Have a look at the reviews on CNet.com :)

I sent my new Samsung Galaxy back because it needed re-charging in less than 24 hours...no good to me when I'm out and about working. :NoNo:

I believe turning off the 3g programme saves a lot of power though.

Battery life affects both Samsung and Apple....unfortunately for the Apple owners (built in battery) you cant buy an aftermarket battery...if ya got a Samsung Galaxy, you are in luck....I bought a battery twice power as the original.....from Amazon.....to save battery wastage go to app market and search out 'Juice Defender'....one of the worthwhile apps...really works :xxgrinning--00xx3:

There is actually quite a sound technological reason behind this. See if you can fathom it out. At the end of the day it isn't necessary, for a range of reasons. Try and think outside the box a little. Every little helps. :D

What are you gonna say to your little Filipino relative when they ask about the iphone you bought 3 years ago.....something like this maybe....Oh you can and you cant...you see I had to put the hammer through it becoz its not possible to clean the memory..the battery was shot anyway...you see, you cant change that either....according to Apple there's a perfectly technological reason behind it....see if you can work it out :NoNo:

The technological ideas are first and for most is to extract as much wonga as possible from these punters.....all headed by aggressive advertising...and the occasional law suit to keep the unruly in line.

Im so insensed by all this I gotta good mind to go home and put the hammer through wifeys phone and claim on the insurance.

Before my wife moved to the UK I bought her a Samsung Notebook. Inexpensive, compact and did the job. She was really happy with that.

Also, if it has to be a tablet device, I looked at the Nexus 7" tablet the other day and at £150 -£200 looks a good budget tablet. I nearly bought one for myself as I prefer the size. Personally, I find the iPad too big for lugging around all day and the iPhone too small for my fat fingers.

:Erm: i cant think of one advantage of not being able to remove the memory, the only one is i suppose if you do take it out you could lose it :doh

how about if you sell the phone you could take the sd card out, or if you drop it, smash the screen etc and send it off to be repaired you would take it out, or even to upgrade it.

Why do you want to remove it in an ipad? Or any other tablet? Why would you want to upgrade it? Do you still have a 3.5" floppy disc drive in your computer, Joe?

No need to remove to send back for repair. No need to remove if you sell it. Why the need? There are easy alternatives. What do you need one for? What do you use the SD card for? There are modern alternatives.

At the offices of one of the places I do work for I have to take out the SD card from my camera in order to print off the photos on their printer (which saves me a lot of money).

So yes, in certain circumstances there is a need for them. :)

Joe. There is no need for the kind of storage space that you may think one might need with one of these newfangled tablets. What do you think one would want to store on an iPad that would require so much space?

Just been chatting to our IT chap who used to be a Global IT specialist for BP in Aberdeen. Our lot have both Galaxy 2s and iPhones up there for work purposes. He gave me the unbiased lowdown. The extra gig just isn't necessary. Don't need it. Just needs a change of mindset.

I dont. The wife does. On holiday, around the house, in the air, in the car, anywhere. Great for kids in the car on a long journey.

I find it too big myself.

But a businessman would use it on the hoof. At work, in the coffee shop, in a clients office, on the train etc etc etc

These things are multifaceted.

grahamw48
27th August 2012, 11:40
Well I was a businessman 'on the hoof' for many years...driving all over the country, and never felt the need for one. Mobile phone was/is enough.

The only reason I would get one is to surf the net while having my sarnies...now that my little TV is about to become obsolete through loss of analogue signal. Maybe I'll just try hooking up a freeview box to it. :Erm:

Dashboard is going to get a bit crowded though. :D

The thing that first put me off iPhones and iPads is that they don't have removable SD cards (first thing I look when buying phones is if it has removable SD cards) ..I store all my photos, videos and important documents in SD cards, always have been (and then has back ups on thumb drives, laptop, external hard drive, etc. hahaha :icon_lol:)...It helps a lot in case the phone crashes and it needs system restore..at least if my phone gets broken, I won't lose my important stuffs. :xxgrinning--00xx3:

Only in the US, not the rest of the world.

Samsung, or anything for that matter, running Android is much better as its open source software, whereas a lot of Apple stuff is locked to Apple products, and it takes ages for Apple to update it's OS, Adroid updates can be pretty rapid. Samsung products are usually more expandable, replacement higher power battery, memory, etc

:D no need for one on holiday got my smart non Apple mobile :D if i need an email, built in camera etc. dont need a bulky pad i cant fit in my pocket.
in the air, most airlines have pretty good selection of films\games you can watch and play as dont spend enough time in the air to justify having one, same reason for not having one in a car, why the need to ?
kids both have nds Xl's
even thou i've got a hp touch pad with android never hardly use the thing, only reason i bought it because i got it cheap.

i just dont need to use the inet when am not at home or work, and if i really do, i've got my old trusted HTC mobile.

According to you, Joe, there is no market for a tablet.....

Its bound to have knock on effect elsewhere.

Lovely, Ded....:icon_lol:...who does that sound like...obviously someone who doesn't buy cheap coffee and drink it in equally cheap coffee houses ...and who's got a penchant for people, mainly his superiors driving Italian exotica....

Keith. I know. There are drawbacks to both systems. But you are the only one so far that is able to point out a genuine drawback. Many others mentioned earlier are just nonsense.

I have nothing against Samsung. I have a Samsung TV and have had one for a good number of years now as I prefer them. I just prefer Apple when it comes to phones and tablets. And there are advantages to Apple products as you probably know.

If I had my way I would have a microsoft based system at work as I know it. One of the drawbacks of Apple is changing to Apple Macs is that when you have been used to Microsoft all your life they are a bouger to adapt to. But at least I am happy to say that. Some folk simply have an unrelenting built in bias.

The term 'brown nose' springs to mind ...anyway you.. What's nonsense about stating the fact that iphone have a monstrously shorter shelf life than say compared to a Samsung...you cant change the battery!...you cant expand the memory...its a throw away phone...totally un serviceable...who benefits...I'll give you a guess, not you..the iphone lover :NoNo:

Not biased here, just stating facts...facts a man of your age and presumed intelligence should know......I ask ya...

well i had to admit i do have an apple product, a I pod nano 4th gen, i didn't buy it, it was given to me a few years ago

its a good Mp3 player better than most others i've had. and no :censored: earlier today i shoved some clothes in the washing machine, and when it had finished a 60c wash , first thing i saw was my Ipod :doh:bigcry:

little chance of opening the bugger to dry it out, but gave it a few blasts with the misses hair dryer and slowly but surely its come back to life :icon_sorry::xxgrinning--00xx3:

it appears to work ok now, but has got a bit of moisture btw the black light and screen, but hopefully it will evaporate:rolleyes:..

i dont hate apple products just use to the vast range of pc products, 3rd party products, open source and s/w you can get compared to apple products.

Nice one Ded:icon_lol::xxgrinning--00xx3:

Ipod huh...that reminds me...I had, in fact I've still got it, be it utterly useless...I bought a 60 gb for £300 back in 2006...very nice until I worn it jogging...same story as Joe's. Condensation and sealed units are like oil and water.....that's not the reason im against Apple, like I said until Joe mentioned it I'd forgot about it....:)

Yeah, back in the late 90s I used to buy Computer Active magazine to keep up with everything, put together my own PCs etc, understood simple programming, but can't be bothered now that things are advancing by the minute. Just gives me a bloody headache.:doh
Now I get things as and when REALLY needed. :)

It depends what you want to do on the device. If you want it to connect to the internet via 3G then you need a 7"/10" Samsung Galaxy as the cheaper models have only wifi.

The new Samsung Note II comes out next month which has a 5.5" display, that will have a quad core.

Thank you for the abusive private message lastlid yesterday at 0820 hrs...never in all my 5 years on this forum have I received a message like that :NoNo:

All the more sad when coming from a self proclaimed teacher.

You are now honoured to be the first and only member to be on my ignore list.

Btw...you shouldn't take things so personally..if that's your nature you think again about being so vocal on a forum...have a happy life :)

Didn't realize he was such a sensitive soul...perhaps his feminine side making an appearance...who knows....what I do know is, I dont dwell all day on whats being said on here....like you said, its only banter...most of the time good natured and good fun.

In reply to your final post here on Monday Graham...yes, other things take priority in life...what was important yesterday could well be put in the nonsensical bin the following...such is the rich tapestry of life :)

I'd certainly entertain a Samsung and the Galaxy Tab 2 can be had for about £230 after the, cash back offer at the moment.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-Galaxy-Tab2-10-1-Tablet/dp/B0080OYLM6

That's almost half the iPad price and well worth it in my opinion.

Good luck

BAD APPLE

SUMSUNG cannot escape the opprobrium heaped upon it for purloining Apple patents.

But the over the top reaction of Apple to its victory over a rival is typical of a monopolist in action.

It seeks to use every weapon it can to beat up on rivals so as to eliminate competition.

iTunes has vacuumed up 70% of the paid for online music market, newspapers must pay heavily to put content on the iPad and now it is seeking to boot Samsung and the Android off its patch.
How Pleasant.
