The wife is starting to get down to some serious reading of the test material. She has been telling me all about the Suffragettes etc. :icon_lol:

However, I am sure that there is going to be a government release on the topic soon and an introduction to the new style of test and test content. I seem to remember October 13th as the release date on the new test?

Anybody heard anything on the new Life in the UK Test yet?

I will probably give Immigration a call soon and the local test center.

Theresa May 'planning changes to immigrant test'

"The new version of the handbook, expected to be issued in the autumn, will include sections about key battles, such as Trafalgar, and British inventions and discoveries."

Theresa May should make all the Polish and Pakistani's who already live here take the test, cos most of them can't even speak English and I bet most British people won't be able to answer questions about the history of Britain. (me included)

Phoned Isle of Man Immigration today. They have no news on the new test material. But they also said that normally they are a bit behind the UK mainland anyway. So I think my wife will focus on revising the old established material for a test date in February.

BRITISH HISTORY IS NOW ‘AT THE HEART OF THE CITIZENSHIP TEST

"Today saw the new version of the Life in the UK test announced by the government. The Life in the UK test has now been revised to include new testable materials covering British history. The new materials are expected to be released in autumn 2012.
With a complete new chapter added to the testable materials this means there are hundreds more facts to be tested. Whilst the government have announced the new testable chapter they have not provided any sample questions for students.

It has been reported that the new test wil include a greater ‘patriotic’ focus including profiles of significant historical and cultural figures such as:

* historical figures including the Duke of Wellington, Nelson, Isambard Kingdom Brunel, Florence Nightingale, Alexander Fleming, Emmeline Pankhurst
* artists such as Gainsborough, Turner and Constable
* novelist such as Jane Austen, Charles Dickens and Thomas Hardy
*poets include Byron, Blake and Browning. Further, it has been indicated that you will have to learn passages of poetry including Browning’s Home Thoughts, from Abroad.
*musical figures range from Elgar and Holst to the Beatles and the Rolling Stones

It is expected that you will have to learn the first verse of the national anthem. The new test will also teach that the United Kingdom is historically a Christian country."

Bit of a monologue but somebody might find this stuff useful...

Life In the UK Test Helpline : 0800 0154245

http://lifeintheuktest.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/

Phoned the number. Spoke to a chap there who said that there are no new publications yet for the new test. The 2011 books still stand, evidently. Additionally he said he thought that there would be an overlap for a while at least.

Just an update on this one.. I called the Life in the UK Helpline number this morning and asked when the changes would take effect. The lady on the other line told me that they haven't got any advise yet on when this would happen. She said PROBABLY EARLY NEXT YEAR, but as of now, they don't know yet. There are no new books and other publications yet, too. But based on TSO Shop's Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/lifeintheuktest, who makes the official books and publications used in Life in the UK, the new Handbook for the test is expected this Winter 2012.
