Not sure if there is any criteria Andy. I don't know much about this but am just guessing. I was talking to our plumber just a few days ago who's wife is Thai and they have 2 kids between them. She and they only moved here in the last couple of years. Basically it seems to be a formality. His 3 year old has a health visitor who seems to be focussing on the kids route into schooling (when the time comes) and so he is getting help anyway.
I presume that the child in question / your children would just have to qualify by being within the catchment.
Are you concerned about the "no recourse to public funds" thing etc while your wife is on a Spouse visa? If so then that's an interesting question.

To be honest lastlid I havnt got a clue how it works. Should I worry about recoarse to public funds? Surely I wont have to pay for my stepkid to go to school here?

I would guess not.
But you have raised a relevant question. No doubt others on here will know the answer with certainty..

Don't need to pay for school.
You can also claim child benefit in your name.

I think you have me wrong terpe its not a question of benefits its about the criteria. Does she need a medical ciritificate? Proof of injections xrays things like that. Criteria.

Maybe I should contact the local school or council.

I think it was only a copy of his passport and birth certificate that they asked for.
We also needed a copy of his baptismal certificate as we got him into the Catholic school.
Must school admissions are sorted out through the council, so contract them first. :xxgrinning--00xx3:

I think it's just the Catholic schools who ask for something extra Andy. Baptismal certificate should be fine although when my Girls were looking for secondary school places they had to provide a letter from the parish priest to say they were church goers.
