The thing is joe, the general public do not know anything about immigration rules. The only thing they are aware of is that immigration is a big mess and that gets confirmed to them when they walk around their own towns and hear the different languages, or when they read about how jobs are being taken by those migrant workers who will happily take low low wages.

That's enough to convince the 'general public' that anything that reduces immigration must be fair.

Perhaps a better question to pose would be do people think it's fair and right that British Citizens can marry the person they fall in love with and live together with them in UK as a right.
Might see a different position then.

Interesting.

Its amazing how it is part of our nature to give biased and ill informed opinion. And is why, half the time, the right outcome never happens.

oh i understand what your saying Terpe, but I'm sure those interviewed when they talk about immigrants, their not just talking about those from outside Europe they also mean those from Europe coming to the Uk and those interviewed are not aware that it will not effect Europeans coming here or stop them bringing their Non Eu wife and kids.

I think that most of Joe Public will not differentiate between various forms of immigrant whether they be from inside or outside of the EU, from Asia or South East Asia or on spouse visa or otherwise. They will just see immigrant undifferentiated.

Might see a different position then.

Chances are that they still won't if they aren't either married to or in a relationship with or intend to be in a relationship with a foreigner.
