:anerikke: ... maybe so! But there again, it's laughable :laugher: too, when one considers that many of today's Aussies are direct descendants of the boatloads of British convicts whose punishment for their assorted misdeeds consisted of their being shipped "down under" to Botany Bay during the closing years of the 18th - and throughout much of the 19th - centuries.

Weather-wise, :sunshine: I'm sure there're many here who would agree with you, Steve. Trouble is - unlike when the £10 Assisted Passage Scheme was available to all and sundry at the height of its popularity in the 1960s - I imagine people from just about every other nation worldwide (including :Britain:) wanting to emigrate to Australia nowadays must first, prove there is either work awaiting them on their arrival ... :yeahthat: or they have close relatives already settled in that particular commonwealth country.

A lot of changes in Australia just lately.. I know a number of Aussie pensioners , including those on disability that have been forced to leave the R.P to return to Aus.. None of them wanted to return and all feel very bitter.
This may be one reason they have had to become stricter on immigrants in general..
From what I hear the current prime minister is hated from just about every Aussie I've spoken to in the last few years...
Me?
I have no opinion....
Not my problem.

... sentiments they evidently have in common with a substantial number of our own members about *THEIRS :icon_rolleyes: - especially those now scrimping and saving to raise the recent level of income deemed necessary to bring lawfully-wedded partners to this country.
