Having won the Champions League and FA Cup last season, the manager expects it to be done every season

I for one was never in favour of Roberto getting the job despite the heroics of last season. I always believed it was more down to the relief of getting rid of AVB than anything Roberto done.
All is not lost somebody offered me 3/1 on Chelsea to get out of their Champions League Group today. I took it .

What's the craziest thing about Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich’s methods? They work

Interesting piece which includes a couple of good statistics tables

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/9693754/Whats-the-craziest-thing-about-Chelsea-owner-Roman-Abramovichs-methods-They-work.html

LastLid & the yah-boo brigade should digest the last paragraph :icon_lol: :-

Di Matteo’s sacking may appear premature to us, but judged by the standards of Abramovich, it came six months later than he would have wanted. It is an expression of the ethos that has guided his whole career. And if, wedded to our traditional barometers of success, we peer inside Chelsea’s trophy cabinet, we will find that Abramovich’s Chelsea has won more than Manchester United in the same period. Before we condemn him as a moneyed loony, perhaps we should take that into account.

Can't compare Chelsea to united's 20 years of near domination:biggrin:
You will get the Spanish Waiter and I think he will do very well there:xxgrinning--00xx3:
I think the sacking is harsh as you are third and as we all know triumphed in the Champions league only 6 months ago but that's Abramovich's way every manager you get knows that.

Well, he brought success to Liverpool but not every season, so he probably will last as long as RDM. :laughitupsmilie:

STOP PRESS

Its Fat Rafa!

Rafael Benitez replaces Roberto Di Matteo as Chelsea manager

"Chelsea have appointed former Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez as interim manager until the end of the season.
Previous manager Roberto Di Matteo was sacked on Wednesday following the 3-0 Champions League defeat by Juventus.
Benitez's short-term appointment could pave the way for owner Roman Abramovich to make a summer approach for ex-Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola.
Benitez, 52, becomes the Blues' ninth manager since Abramovich took over in 2003."

Roman Abramovich hard to satisfy at 'dysfunctional' Chelsea

Interesting paragraph....

In the rarefied world Abramovich inhabits - second guessed by everyone, questioned by no-one - this sort of thinking masquerades as strategy. For the truth is that Chelsea appear a dysfunctional club, unable to steer a clear course through the messes of their own making.

Rafa won't win the EPL but he might win the Europa League for Chelsea.

Can't understand though why Abramovic is so desperate to get Guardiola next season. Any competent manager could win trophies with that Barcelona side.

What a difference a year makes. In Nov 2011 Man Utd crashed out of their group containing Champions League giants Benfica, Basel & Oțelul Galați (I think I spelt that last one right). Man City fell to the much bigger guns of Bayern, Villarreal & Napoli

I think the main difference to chelsea this year is the Drogba departure. They were relying on torres who in my opinion is the biggest waste of money I have ever seen. He is a idle git. He wouldnt last two minutes if fergie was his manager.

Im no expert but from what I have seen they need a class striker and another commanding central defender. their midfield is fine.
