With Pablo knocking on the door....
October 2012..
"In less than two months, it will the first anniversary of the devastating flashfloods unleashed by storm 'Sendong' that claimed more than a thousand lives, with hundreds more missing, in the Northern Mindanao cities of Cagayan do Oro and Iligan on December 16, 2011. As the water subsided, leaving death and destruction in its wake, calls were issued and promises made to end the illegal logging and mining blamed for the catastrophe.
However, on Wednesday, October 17, a reconnaisance flight by the Army's Aeroscout Company with environmental officers from Iligan City, in compliance with an order from the Court of Appeals to check on the reported illegal logging along the Mandulog and Kapai-Bayug Rivers, found a large sawmill operating in Kapai town, Lanao del Sur. This is the same area from where the logs that the floods carried down to Iligan came from.
InterAksyon.com correspondent Cherryl Agbayani took this photograph of the sawmill, including men preparing rafts of newly sawn lumber to be floated down the river."
