but Only Luxembourg (92 per cent), Ireland (85 per cent) and Denmark (286 per cent) have more generous benefits. so why come to the UK if it's only 4th , maybe the gov should display this info at ports so illegals head to these countries instead

Probably the ease with which it is distributed, and the lure of London. Everyone deserves a good life, but this shouldn't be handed on a plate. Welfare should be purely and simply for getting back on the ladder when life is treating you roughly. Nor should you be able to elect to live in London if a council house is available in the Highlands.

I think Rickys right it has to be ease of access and the lure of London. The black economy in London must be huge. Benefits plus cash in hand work = a fairly comfortable life.:cwm23:

I worked in Denmark for a spell and yes, they have (had) a much better / bigger social safety net than us in the UK.

I am surprised Sweden isnt up there with them as they also had a similar sized social safety net.

"Political parties have been vying to offer the biggest tax cuts as the credit crunch tightens its grip on Britain. In their view, low taxes are now the best way to get the economy going and to help out families.

Too right. Send em all up to Scotland. :big grin:

Then shut the gate at Scottish Independence.

Is this the only country where you get free healthcare?

Universal healthcare is provided in the countries marked in green on the map in the link. Doesn't include the USA.

I believe it is free in Canada and Cuba. :big grin: And free in Scandanavia for example. But am not sure exactly how free.

Of course it isn't exactly free in the UK as it is funded from our wage packets each month.

Doc Alan will know, no doubt.
