Hi guys! Plan to send balikbayan boxes for my family. I have no experience of this thing. Can anyone suggest me any courier or company are doing ths and how much it cost me to send. How long I can keep the boxes to fill it up? Thank you!

This will give you a few ideas. There are other companies of course.

I'm sure other members will be along soon to give you their experiences. :)

Be careful, it's not always best to go on price as you will find the odd horror story on here.
Personally we use LBC who offer a pretty good service and we've had no problems so far.

Thank you! My friend told me Forex but looking on LBC website it's cheaper than Forex. How long you can have the box before they gonna collect it?

I think when I sent mine I just phoned up the company when the boxes were ready for them to collect, but not sure if all the companies do it that way.

They will tell you if you enquire.

we use tagalogbalikbayan .com no problems at all, they drop of the boxes and they give you a date to collect them, usually a week to 10 days,

Be sure you compare like with like.

We've used Forex and LBC

Forex boxes are often a different volume and also Forex seem to have less 'prohibited items'
Forex will deliver the boxes without any charge and pick up when you call.
LBC are often more responsive in a customer service sense and certainly have a slicker and faster delivery from UK to Philippines with customer tracking too.
LBC asked us for a £10 deposit per box

Find out how better to pack these boxes and how to tape up.
Oh and be sure the packed boxes can actually be removed through the doorways/hallways etc in your house

Take a look here (http://www.lbcexpress.com/UK/FAQs) - (NB: This is just one BB service supplier)

Look under these headings:-

What are the general guidelines for packing a Balikbayan Box?

What are the recommended items to send home?

What are items not accepted for shipment?

What are the packing guidelines for Specific Items such as liquids, powders, sharp/metal objects, electrical/electronic equipments?

What are the general guidelines for Unique Items such as artworks, photos, undeveloped films, etc.?

What are the prohibited items?

Once a shipper tells you what is prohibited, then if you actually ship a prohibited item you will have full responsibility and null and void insurance.

That's not to say it won't arrive, just to say understand the law.
We've all done certain things. I'm sure :Erm:

Mate, I sent a computer, a complete hi fi system, glass picture frames, crockery, pots and pans, cutlery and all sorts of electrical stuff, record collection etc.
6 big boxes full. Not one item damaged or missing ( I was there to receive them). The secret must be in the packing....which I'd also done...couple of months before.

The LBC website is gash! This puts me off ever using their services. If they can't put out a half decent website, there is no way I would ever trust them to deliver my boxes half way around the world.:NoNo:

Lots of people here, including me, have used LBC and they've done great. :xxgrinning--00xx3: Boxes were received in the Philippines in around 5-6 weeks time.
