Ministers are considering to run a campaign to persuade eastern Europeans that Britain’s streets are not “paved with gold” to stop them from moving here next year.

One idea was for the UK to run a negative public information campaign, according to ministers, to “correct the impression that the streets here are paved with gold”. The campaign would focus on the downside of life in the UK
You mean they are gonna try to be honest for once?
Damn!! Thats gonna be hard.

remember what downside they think might put them off, but the .... they live in in eastern europe this place will still look like the streets are paved with gold

They're not stupid they know that the housing/benefits/healthcare red carpet will be rolled out and that our limpwristed legal system allows them to lawbreak to their hearts content :cwm23:

:icon_rolleyes: ... surely to God British television's so-called "reality" shows - like 'Big Brother' - would be enough to do the trick.

Can't help but :laugher: ... on the one hand we have folk from abroad who are apparently desperate to come and live in this country. And on the other, there are those born and bred here who seem equally keen to leave!
Ah well ... :anerikke: ... such is the diversity of human nature!

I cant help but think that your second point Arthur is caused directly as a result of your first.
Worrying times when all that money appears to be leaving this country and nothing arriving but people with begging bowls.

See my post #14 does anyone have any comments on the disgraceful actions of the Brit Embassy in Romania who are saying :-
"We want to send out a clear message that Britain is one of the very best places in the world to visit, live, work, study, invest and do business. "

Funnily enough, got a call from brother yesterday. He's up this way and has volunteered to take me out for a meal.
Poor bloke might be getting an ear-bashing in between courses. :icon_lol:
