Well our war is won, however we will continue to battle with the authorities using everything at our disposal to get the UKBA to speed up and be more in touch with applicants.

This week we are sending out Press Releases and they are now starting to appear around the internet. We will still be filing a complaint with the ombudsman.

Now me and Rayna have to make the most of our time as her IELTS expires in July so we will no longer be able to communicate in English after that!! :icon_rolleyes:

Hi Ana, I have to get an NI number when I get my BRP card as the dentist here needs it before I can register! I need my teeth to be cleaned! Hahaha..:icon_lol: Also I'm gonna continue to study for the Life in the UK test as I want to take the test before the start of the new test on 25th March. Then time to look for a work (even part time). I plan to learn how to drive too.

Well by October 2013, all settlement applicants need to show they passed Life in the UK test and a valid English test (meaning not expired). No further details about it from the UKBA website yet, but they included that when they released the new rules on 9th July. Like you, I have to retake my IELTS..more costs!!! :doh

if there will be a new rule about the life in the uk and valid english test on october 2013 for settlement, are you still going to take 'Life in uk test' before march 25th, or would it be better to wait until after October? :Erm:

Life in the UK test has no expiration date so whether you take the old or new test, as long as you passed it, it's acceptable when you apply ILR and then British Citizenship. I have been studying last year (around October to November) so I already know some..what I need to do is study harder to be able to get the test before 25th March. I don't want to waste the book I have and what I learned so far..

Rayna,
One of the things that really helped my wife was doing those online practice tests and also the CD practice tests.
She would do them over and over again until she was getting all the practice tests (24 question test) 100%

I know that kind of rote learning may not suit everyone (you do need a good memory) but it really helped her.
Her objective was to pass the test. Not to be familiar with UK statistics etc.

'Finally' being the operative word, Rayna ... you've been through "hell and high water" one way and another, during the past 101/2 months. When starting work or setting up as self-employed

If you start work or set up as self-employed you must apply for a National Insurance number if you do not have one. You do not need to have a plastic National Insurance number card. If you have the right to work in the UK, you will need to telephone Jobcentre Plus on Tel 0845 600 0643 to arrange to get one. Lines are open 8.00 am to 6.00 pm Monday to Friday and are normally less busy before 9.00 am. They may require you to attend an 'Evidence of identity' interview - see section 'What happens when you apply for a National Insurance number'.

You must apply for a National Insurance number to start work but you don't need to have a plastic National Insurance number card.
If you're not a UK citizen and want to find out whether you have the right to work in the UK, please read the guide 'Documents you will need before you can work in the UK'. The other two guides below explain how you'll pay tax and National Insurance when working.

Source: http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/ni/intro/number.htm

I called the number stated above and was told that I need an Evidence of Identity interview. The lady on the other end of the line did however get some details from me. I'm not sure why others are required to have the interview and others just need to fill-up the form via post.

My apologies, Rayna ... :sorry-2: for causing confusion by making 'a little' :joke: in response to Ded's post about "carrying on" (British terminology for having an affair) with the ombudsman.

But - back to being serious for a moment - :iagree:, wholeheartedly, that you're doing the right thing in taking this matter further, and wish you and Keith every success with your efforts which will [hopefully] be of considerable help to future applicants, in saving them from the nightmare wait you and others here endured. :xxgrinning--00xx3:
