The conviction was quashed because the trial judge made an error in his advice, not because there was any doubt about the evidence

Correct that is why further public money will be wasted on a retrial involving charges that should never have been made in the first instance

Dedworth, that's one point of view but as Joe said, even brave soldiers cannot bring firearms into the country, and I believe, Sgt Nightingale pleaded guilty to doing that, but now says that was not a free choice, is for a jury to decide.

If he knowingly did it, then he is guilty of a serious offence.

His hourable past is mitigation on what sentence he should receive, not a defence
