A FORMER soldier is battling over the right to fly the Union Jack in his garden as a tribute to fallen comrades.
Martin O’Neill, who has served with the 1st Battalion, Duke of Lancaster’s regiment in Iraq and Afghanistan, says he has no intention of taking his 10ft flagpole down, despite receiving a warning letter from the council, threatening legal action.

Tricky one I'm totally pro army and flag but it is a great big flag and something a bit more modest could be a fair compromise:wink:

I'm going to write to my council demanding that all washing be banned from lines in my neighbourhood. :icon_rolleyes:
There are far more important things for councils to be doing IMO, like demolishing buildings put up without planning permission to house :censored:ing illegal immigrants and other trash. :cwm23:

I must admit this confuses me :Erm:
Is this about flying our flag ? or is it about the size of his pole? ( no double entendre intended )
I simply can't believe there's any regulation about flying our national flag. Surely :Erm:

Well, I'm shocked to learn that permission used to be needed :yikes: How on earth did that come about :NoNo:
Anyway, thank goodness it's no longer needed. Nice link Graham :xxgrinning--00xx3:

Great decision but they should go one step further and ban flags from every other country outside the uk from flying here.

I dont mind them flying other flags just as long as they fly a much larger Union jack above it at high mast..
This is what most Brits do in the Philippines.
Its called respect.

We live in Spain.
There is the occasional national flag flying from apartment terraces, including the Union Flag (sometimes incorrectly called a Union Jack) There are also more than 50% or bars flying a flag or flags, again including the Union Flag.
As far as I know, no one has ever been told to remove them.
It nice to live in a free country like Spain !

Many yank households fly the stars and stripes all the time in the States no matter what their colour or creed cos they are proud of their country.
