He's jacked it because he lost out on the top job to his brother. He couldn't bear to serve under his brother in a shadow cabinet so he took his toys and went and skulked on the bank benches until he managed to find another highly paid job doing absolutely nothing.
I can assure you that he will be back at some point in the future probably looking for another well paid job doing nothing more than likely in the EU as a commissioner.
