Hello guys, I'm in the Philippines with my wife we plan to go to Spain together, we have completed ALL requirements for her schengen visa only problem is that the Spanish consulate want a certificate stating that the marriage is legal/ registered in the UK, so we went to the British embassy and they could not give us a certificate but they did seal a stamp on the signature of the authenticated Philippines marriage certificate, but when we submitted this to the spanish consulate it was still not enough !!!! :cwm23: they want something from the UK stating that the marriage is legal/registered!! but its British law that all marriages outside of the UK are legal as long as they are legal within the country that it took place in.. so we are now left not knowing what on earth to do :cwm23: yesterday morning we deposited our marriage certificate to the (GRO) general registry office in the UK at the embassy in manila, would that be acceptable once we get in writing from the GRO , we could then order a certified true copy from them?? would that act as seen as legal for the spanish embassy?? please help..:doh

Very unusual, we applied through the Spanish Embassy here in Oman, and they accepted the Filipino marriage certificate.
I dont see what else you could do to be honest, alternatively you could try a different embassy, French or Italian.

I'm not happy one bit at all.. I contacted my europe advice and lodged a complaint with them and see what their team of legal advisers can do to help us.. feel that my right has been denied and I'm not happy with my wifes treatment either she feels like she has been discriminated against, unfriendly and totally unhelpful.. we have had the NSO marriage certificate authenticated by the DFA here in Manila and had the signature of the officer who signed it was signed and sealed by the British Embassy.. I do not know what the Spanish want, I'm thinking they want blood or something?? Its funny how all the europeans can troop to the UK and claim everything under the sun but yet when I want to go there im prevented, what a bloody joke!! totally disgusted and very pissed off.. :cwm23:

Have you considered a letter to the Ambassador, explaining your situation and quoting the references from the UK Embassy website that they don't convert Marriage Certificates. It may expedite things.
