A Zimbabwean man who used a false identity to get a British passport has been jailed for 18 months, following an investigation by our officers.

I wonder how much resources would be needed if the UK started fingerprinting everyone who came in. Wouldn't that help keep away the people who've been deported before, and help keep track of the people and their visas?

forget the prison sentence, imediate deportation, free board and lodgings at tax payers expense is not the answer

This is actually currently achieved by means of the Biometric Residence Permit (BRP)
This card has your biographic details (name, date and place of birth) and also 'biometric information' (fingerprints and photo).
It also shows your immigration status.
Unfortunately it's not applicable to all residents.
It's not applicable to EU immigrants either.
