Filipinos and english pronounciation

Been having a bit of fun with my missus getting her tongue around pronouncing English words. These two come out particularly badly. Has anyone noticed any other words that may cause embarrassment:icon_lol:?

Sheet sounds more like "sh1t"
Pope comes out more like "poop"

I used to read Leicester as LEI-SES-TER and Wycombe as WHY-KOM-BI, thanks to my husband for correcting me but of course that was after he laughed so hard that he nearly S**T his pants over it. :icon_lol:

The only thing that Keith teases me when it comes to words and/or pronunciation is that I speak the American English. Even other British people I meet say so, that my accent is clearly American..Well I've been taught my entire life in American English and all the project clients I had at work are all American. :biggrin:

My husband had LOL to death while we were at the supermarket one time and I said: oh we need some Breed instead of Bread :icon_lol: :icon_lol: :doh :doh, then we were also talking about fav songs and singers and I said I like Tina Toorner instead of Turner :doh :icon_lol: some forum members here from Mindanao can understand me why hahaha it's inevitable!

I'm accustomed to American English as well as that's what we were taught with at school.. Strangers think that I grew up in America! Lol :icon_lol: Even my hubby imitates how I talk sometimes.. Though he said that I am losing my American side and slowly getting "neutralised" :icon_lol: (whatever that means! ��)

We always argue on pronunciation of TOMATO.. :NoNo: And with the letter Z (Z or Zed) :NoNo:

Lol lol.. Relate much of this.. My husband and i sometime fallen out about my pronounciation coz i used to speak american way as well and i hardly pronounce if bisaya lol..

It's because English language in the Philippines is based on American English. Lots of differences.

I never have trouble with my missus' pronounciations although she says I'm more difficult to understand than the average Brit. Too much slang probably. :Rasp:

The funny thing is my step-daughter now 8 and been here 3 years also laughs at her mums pronounciation...and corrects her!

I never pull up the wife on pronunciation as my Visayan is so poor. We do have a favourite phrase that she has 'pinch of needles' instead of pins and needles. Some of her song lyric interpretations are hilarious also, especially young son's nursery rhymes :icon_lol:
