Hi there kalboman, welcome aboard. :welcomex:

May I kindly suggest your first step is reading this forum thread and following all the included links to the UKBA site - All New Guide - How to apply for a Spouse/Partner Visa (http://filipinaroses.com/showthread.php/39740-All-New-Guide-How-to-apply-for-a-Spouse-Partner-Visa)

You could also make searches here in the forum for any specific areas/topic of concern.
Don't be shy to ask any questions.

I'm afraid there is no documents check list for you to tick off as each application is quite different.
However the above link will provide good background information, and many members here have posted their own lists of submitted documents for the benefit of all those who follow. Just make a quick search and you'll surely find them.

The most important aspect of spouse visa these day is that of the Financial Requirement and I again suggest you review the UKBA webpages and associated immigration rules to see where your own circumstances fit best.

Happy reading
