View Full Version : Can Anyone Recommend a Car Camera

My Wife has parked in the same road for 10 years while she works but lately her car has
been keyed, then a week ago someone hit the offside damaging the door and front side
panel plus side indicator without leaving their details.
Then on Friday she closed the side mirrors and went to work, but when she returned to
the car the drivers mirror had been hit and smashed and turned 180 degrees.
Its going to cost a fortune to get the lot fixed but I would love to find out if its one person or she has just been unfortunate, so I would like to put a camera in the car to see what turns up.
Any ideas appreciated.

Don't think it's too easy to do as the viewing angle for the camera is limited,I looked into it and came away bit disappointed :cwm25:

You don't think a camera would catch passing cars Les, if it was sat on top of the dash?

sounds like it a pedestrian not a car, a car cant key it,
maybe its some kind of spy camera you need rather than a car camera:Erm:
i think the recording with a car camera is on a loop, does it not only capture about 1 hour before it loops, then you loose the previous hour

not easily Pete as where do you point it?,if its out of side window may see impact but not reg no.,if on dash you might capture reg but prob could not prove beyond doubt that the judder as car hit you was the one you captured reg no.

Yes your right, but the last two were definitely car damage, good point about the loop, I want it to record for about 6 hours.
I was hoping to find something that will send a feed to a laptop, but then there is always the danger that if its too good a camera the car might be broken into to steal it.:Erm:

Thanks for input Les, I would not worry about proving beyond doubt, I would not take it to court.
We both think it may well be someone she knows, she is very popular at school and has also been the centre of attention recently through sympathy, her Mum died a couple of months ago and she is having a hard time coming to terms with it.
Her colleagues and friends have been so kind to her that it can lead to jealously I suppose.
Saying that, it may just be a coincidence.:Erm:

I've looked into these little 'hidden' camera's before. I took a look online at the sort of devices available including looking to Maplins.
There is a reasonable availability and range of products. Of course there's a range of prices too.
Mostly they are activated by movement within a certain range, i remember some could be set to constant recording though.
Most of these recorded onto SD card and some could record a very good length of time without any looping.
Might be worth some research as a lot of the cameras were quite cheap, very small, disguised (hidden camera) and easily installed.
Food for thought

You're not really looking for in-car camera as they record when the ignition is on and are usually directed to the road forward/backwards. You need one of those small 'spy' cameras (because they use little power/battery). Look on Ebay - then google the product.
