Is there another procedure after entering the UK? Please help

Hello guys first, I want to thank you for the information you have posted in this site. The forum has been very helpful and it had help me through to get my visa under the sponsorship of my british citizen husband in as early as 9 weeks.

Secondly, I have been hearing that there is another procedure I need to undergo when entered the country. I have visited the UKBA home office site but not sure whether it's a TOC.

Not sure what you mean by 'another procedure'.

What I can say is that your visa is valid to enter UK on a 5 year immigration journey that will (may) ultimately lead to settlement (ILR / Indefinite Leave to Remain) and finally to British Citizenship.

Your journey has a number of challenges to face.

The visa you have just been granted should be valid for 33 months.

Shortly before the first 30 months anniversary of living in UK you must make application for FLR (Further Leave to remain)
This visa will allow you to remain for a second period of 30 months.

Shortly before the second 30 months anniversary of living in UK you become eligible to apply for ILR (settlement)
Once granted you will become free of almost all UK immigration restrictions and are able to remain here as long as you want provided you do not leave for a period of 2 years or more.

TOC is a Transfer Of Conditions usually to a new passport.

Hi Terpe, thanks to this interesting answer to my query. It clarified my confused.com mind. My passport need not to be changed as its renewal doesnt comes till 2014 so, I know now it is not the TOC. Its just my lawyer has implied that I have to register or do something on arrival which has baffled me a bit.

There are plenty of important things to do when you arrive into the UK that'll keep you busy for a while, you can be sure of that. :icon_lol:

Register with your local doctor/dentist
Follow these links:-

Add your name to your husband's Council Tax Bill (this will provide address ID to open bank account, applying for credt, applying for FLR etc.)

Add your name to your husband's utility bills (this will provide address ID to open bank account, applying for credt, applying for FLR etc.)

Apply for a National Insurance Number

Get a National Insurance number (https://www.gov.uk/apply-national-insurance-number)

Get a bank account (probably only a 'basic' bank account as you will have no credit history)

Consider studying and passing the new Life in UK Test (you need to pass this before applying for ILR)
Always easier to study and pass before while you have time free before you start working.
