Hi all.
Just back from my 3 weeks in phils and went straight to hospital as I didn't feel well.
Doc said I had 140 degree fever and turns out I have some of the worst salmonella and blastocystis the microbiologist has ever seen.
bedridden and on drugs.
:NoNo::furious3::cwm25:
Do you think you can pinpoint where you may have picked up the illness?? Were you drinking tap water or eating from vendor stalls etc? Where in the R.P??

My bro in laws blood pressure has been 220 over 180 since 1985.
Medically speaking,he was supposed to be officially dead ever since!...
He failed the medical for work in Libya back then 80`s) till he bunged the Provincial doctor 200.00 Pesos for the all clear.
Worked in Libya and the middle east for 8 years.
These days he does our gardening and his BP is the same..
Amazing man!

Get well soon, and I’m sure we’re all relieved that your temperature is not 140 degrees :xxgrinning--00xx3:!
As with many cases of “ travellers’ diarrhoea “ the precise source of the infection may never be known. Indeed with the milder forms affecting up to 3/5 travellers, it’s simply the change of diet and “ bugs “ causing self-limited symptoms.
I’m sure you have already looked up Salmonella and blastocystis on the internet. It’s reassuring that your doctor and the microbiologist / laboratory staff were able to make the diagnosis :smile:. No doubt your treatment includes antibiotics – not effective ( for prevention or treatment ) UNLESS the food / water poisoning is severe, and a non-viral cause is identified, as in your case.

Neither of them mention blastocystosis ; this is a good link :-

Thanks Doc.
The doctors here in Guernsey are really good and had all blood and stool samples results back inside the hour and that's how diagnosis was made.They gave me ciprofloxacin and metronidazole in high dozes but included to say it might not get rid of what I have for the moment.It is quite severe and I could have this for quite some time.he also said they would send both samples for more tests which might take some days to see what else they can find.
