Sent an email enquiry last night to my local register office to enquire about how to apply for a CNI here and the cost.

Hi,

Just a quick enquiry.

I am getting married in the Philippines Next June and am currently in the planning stage. I have read I need to apply for a CNI here in the UK before going to the Philippines, once there exchange it for their version.
Can you advise me if I come to you for this document or elsewhere? I am aware I cant apply for it just yet as it has a validity time on it. But if you can help I'd also like to know the cost please.

Thank you

There response this morning was

We can only provide this for British Citizens.

Then they gave me phone number to phone for more information.

When I replied to the email to ask why they assumed I wasn't British, they replied back

We never assume on anything! The CNI can only be provided to British Citizens, so we have to advise you of this.
You will need to obtain the CNI from us, and the current fee is £35.

I don't know if I am reading too much into it? But I am wondering why they just didn't add to the first reply that it is only available to British citizens and costs £35 instead of just saying they only provide it for British Citizens.....

My surname isn't English sounding so this is why I guess they assumed I wasn't British.

sometimes ''technology'' doesn't work alright with inquiries on legal documents.

if the registry office is not too far away from you and you want to marry in June next year you got loads of time to pop in and apply a month before your intended date to marry.

Well I am not the best at the English language, so I would never pick anyone up on their poor use! So they can be forgiven for that.

I know I could have asked here.... But I was trying to find the one closest to my home... Thankfully this one is only 3 or so miles away.

my surname is as non English as you can get, I didn't have a problem going to the local reg and getting a CNI.
