Well you cant complain to them yourself = kanu's are not allowed to complain about anything there
Your good lady could talk to the barangy captain which could spark off all kinds of problems
Probably ending up with you being labeled as the trouble maker who complains about everything by the locals
If you complained about a barking dog there, the owner would probably reply yes my dog is a good guard dog totally not bothered that the dog barks 24/7
What noise they make and how it effects other people does not even register with many there
I would move to another place where the neighbours are not so close, that is the only solution.........

well hopefully I get her a visa for 6 months for a rest back home ,the problem is when you choose a new sub division you can,t tell who your neighbours are going to be .and you are right they don,t care about how much their dogs bark all night a fairly selfesh attitude if you ask me .they buy dogs but don,t take care of them ,they cut them loose after the puppy stage has passed and then we end up with packs of ferral dogs running around everywhere.your also right in the fact if I complain I may end up dead somewhere in the future foreigners have no rights here thats a fact .

I lived in an housing association flat from 2003 in a block of 30 bedsit flats, here on the Isle of Wight, UK.
Within days the noise night time, and I mean all night was terrible!
I found out of the 30 flats 3 tenants including me went out to work!
the rest were mostly males in their 20s and 30s who were too pissed and high on drugs to work.
The man to my immediate left with whom I shared a small veranda that could have been a nice spot to sit out on in an evening but for the very loud music coming from his flat, he would go out in the late evenings get back then sit out on it all the night, till 4 or 5am.
The housing officers knew what was happening, and the council noise teams, I put official complaints in all the time, but apart from having a word with them nothing was done, I was going to work shattered from lack of sleep!
After filling in their report sheets daily whenever they spoke to a tenant, I then had to start a new log of events because they considered the matter dealt with.
One morning around 03.30 I was woken with a start, It seemed like there was a rock group in my flat, I went to the flat next doors front door and hammered on it so loud it woke a lot of other tenants , I had snapped if I could have got hold of him, I would have done something that would have no doubt got me too in trouble!
Within days the housing officer offered me the flat I have been in since 2007 in sheltered housing.
Even here Somone in a house nearby shuts a dog outside most of the time and it barks continually!
Noise and nuisance is with us everywhere including the UK.

The Philippines is obviously not for you.
The degree of adaption varies from person to person and it will always be that way. The bottom line is they are not the ones that need to change their ways to suit you. Accept that or as Fred said go insane :xxgrinning--00xx3:
Good luck with the 6 month visit visa.

Ive never been to Bacolod but there are a few places and situations that I can do without at my age.. I used to live in Paranaque in a sub division and it was not too bad back then and karaoke machines were not such an issue.. We were there for about 3 years but that was a long time ago and to be honest I dont know if that life would suit me anymore..
Depends on your situation but surely there must be quieter areas around to rent in?
Here in Bohol there is only one posh sub division but most expats I know own or rent bungalows well away from neighbours.. My nearest neighbour is an Aussie,(50 meters away) and beyond that the closest nipa hut from us is 300 meters.. We avoid going to town too often but its only 15 mins away if we need to..
Cant you find something a bit more secluded there in Bacolod?

I think it is just where you live at the moment tiger. I have been to the dreaded mindinao as some people label it and I hav'nt had a problem. Not all places are like that. As been said you cant choose your neighbors. It can be just as bad here and like mick c said its not easy to get a complaint recognised here. You have to make diaries and logs. It could take ages for the council to take action and in some cases if the problem is with one of our ethnic minority friends you have little or no chance of resolving the problem.

lol I like the way you put that (our little ethnic friends) well mick had a bad time too, but back home I would sort the problem myself if you know what I mean ,I don,t wait for the namby pamby brigade to come along with their clip boards .but here in the philippines I know life is cheap and for very little money you can be bumped off ,so I keep myself to myself stay out of any disputes at all costs .I want to see good ol blighty again safe n sound

Totally agree with that, when I first moved there the person in the flat next to me was in a flat sub let to the probation service for ex prisoners, the Housing Association said they could do nothing.
He then set fire to his bed in the flat and I called the fire brigade, he was it turned out watching from the road, he said he did it because he was lonely, he was then sent back to prison!
But I still had problems with the next one, he was ex prison too.

Buy earplugs or headphones so you can listen to your own relaxing music. I should think the music till 1 in the morning isn't going to happen every night. Alternatively, get them to invite you...if you can't beat them join them!
The roosters?...well you just get used to them i think.....but then i used to keep them here in the uk so they dont bother me. Take up cock fighting?...when in Rome do as the romans do!
or as others have suggested maybe you just need a little rest in the UK...then you will again appreciate how nice it is in the Philippines!

You wont win tiger taking the law into your own hands. You would get done for assault. However you can get bumped off here too for a price. But I do agree with what you say (keep yourself to yourself) When I am there I only go out with my wife and stepkid in the city. If I want a bit of socialising we tend to go with her friends who know the locals. And I never show off. My wife has the money for our outings and I never wear gold. I just try to look and behave in a sensible manner. I find if your respectable to them they will respect you. A smile and saying Hi costs nothing.

I've said this before, but it's worth posting again. imo
Forget what you imagine, think or believe about life in Philippines, don't even consider a move, without first spending enough time there to let the "new & fun bit" wear off.
Try to get under the skin of life in the Philippines as it really is.
In practical terms, if any of those little daily annoyancies, inconveniences and general BS get to you, it'll only feel worse as time goes on. Period.
Such a move can be hard enough without discovering down the road that it was all a mistake, and then having to reverse the whole process again.
I do wonder just how many brits can really adapt.
I've managed to adapt to some very different lifestyles and it's really a state of mind.
Not that many folks can really adjust.
Having said all that I'd also add that life in UK also takes some getting used to.
After 10 years in UK I'm really ready to quit. There's noisy nasty neighbours here as well. More widespread than you might imagine. Don't think it's so easy to resolve either.

spot on :xxgrinning--00xx3: different strokes for different folks its vital to let the holiday mode wear off no matter how long it takes before deciding if this place is right for you I think nearly 3 years is a good apprentiship in my view .I am not saying its all bad its not but getting used to bad things is very hard .I believe the retirement group the 60 to 70 might adapt better than the younger ones who still have work this is one of my problems i,m 50 and bored I actually want to go back and do some work because after sitting around for 3 years I don,t think i,m ready yet.We will be keeping the house going here so i,m not pulling out never to return .

i have many brothers and me being the youngest is more placid then the rest, my orrible bro was having problems with these new neighbors once and what did he do, well he banged on the wall you can still see the mark from the sole of his slipper, that did not work and after a few more minutes he went round to the door and banged loud but nothing happened so in he walk straight into the front room where these 3 kids/men was drinking smoking watching tv and the music playing in the back ground, well after he told them what he would do if they did not comply , the sound was off and from that day there is still music but not loud and after 10 the sound you cannot hear, and they get on great now :xxgrinning--00xx3:

Love - hate relationship with the Philippines  Over the past 25 years i have met a lot of expats who feel exactly the same way. That's why they keep coming back after swearing that they have had a enough of the place!
If anything i would say older people have a harder time adapting to the Philippines as they are more set in their ways. Most of the younger ones tend to leave because they run out of money. They usually come back again for another try at some point in their life
You can work in the Philippines if you have your own business or should i say the wife's business.

well i,m in what you could call a middle class sub divison but you,re never gonna change what you see here so you just got to go with the flow until it gets too much .I lived in lapu lapu city for 2 years with much the same issues i,m not rich so renting in the higher end sub divisions are out for me .btw many laws here are ignored regarding home ownership people do what they want most of the time being neighbourly is not high on their agenda in my opinion.

I've had noisy neighbours in the past here in the UK which drove me into buying a detached house. I live in a village and there is even a local rooster nearby but thankfully double glazed windows keep most of its noise at bay. I used to stay with my brother in Paranaque and Alabang, nice areas but there were still noisy roosters there too and despite being there for only a few weeks at a time, I found the very early wake up call hard to tolerate every morning . ......... pesky birds! :coolchickendance:

As Mick pointed out, noisy neighbours are everywhere not just the Philippines but it could be worse I suppose. You could live near a busy intersection with trikes/bikes going past all the time.
Stayed in a hotel in AC last year with the non stop noise of traffic through the night and this was not in the centre of town. Then an adjacent property began blasting out Tom Jones songs at 7am.

It was something I was going to do a while back. .take on a mortgage over there. .buying a nice house for immediate family. .I was going to spend 3 months of the year in Philippines splitting it thrice over the year. ..I worked out we would get more quality time as a family than if we stayed here in UK. I'd then be able to retire at 65 and have a big lovely house all bought and paid for over there in Manila. .Jerusalem street near to the airport.
It's not an obligation to live in the gutter. When you first hook up with a new chick you cld live anywhere. .lunch on chickens intestines and delicious chickens feet morning day and night. .that novelty wears thin after a while, I can tell you.
The inactivity got to me. .I enjoy my work i can't ever imagine not working. .yes you can work in the Philippines. .not quite the same as working here for a solid wage each month.
Still, horses for courses. ..my line of work is still in demand here so I'm only giving my perspective.
It's just a thought :xxgrinning--00xx3:

We do see things differently as i see Filipino's as neighbourly.
Yes i agree with your comments about noise. That is part of the culture and other neighbours don't have a problem with it so what gives us the right to say what is right or wrong.
I often read on the forum comments about Paki's and other nationalities not integrating into British society. Ask a filipino the same question about foreigners who live here. They will tell you that the vast majority of them are rude, snobbish, isolated and never really try to integrate. Sounds familiar!

:iagree: ... it may seem like that at times, Steve ... :anerikke: ... BUT, there's always the NHS to "fall back on" here in good ol' much maligned :Britain: if you're unfortunate enough to develop arthritis or catch pneumonia as a result of our persistent damp, :raining: weather!

Yes you have got the umberella of the NHS here at the moment. For how long I wouldnt like to guess. Jake you have more experience of what the filipinos say obviously but like I said earlier a smile and Hi dont cost anything thats probably why I havnt had a problem yet. And it is true some nationalities do not intergrate here and they dont intend to.

As you said a smile and a hi goes a long way in any culture.

Not quite a fair comparison Jake. .the majority of the foreigners are making valued contributions to the Philippines economy. .unlike the leeching parasites here.
Nothing unreasonable about having a moan about loud music.
We too had to endure such behaviour which according to my wife was accepted as normal. We had a jeepney parked by our bedroom window. .Every day we'd be awoken with the room being filled with black exhaust fumes. Again, that was accepted because the jeepney owner always parked there. .nobody complained.
I want my life how I want it. .not a test of endurance.
Like the foreigners wanting to come here for the money for doing sod all and for us wanting a better life on the cheap.

thats because the PH attracts a lot of dregs in society sexpats etc I would,nt integrate with them either if I was a Filipino .right now a dog is barking its head off the same one that goes at it all night now if a Filipino in england had the same problem it would be dealt with thats the difference jake here people just tolerate all kinds of crap because it aint in their nature .and the ones that do complain will probably bring out a gun here its very common .thats another reason why ive been told to keep quiet because they would,nt think twice of shooting you dead .you can kill anyone that comes onto your property here if they feel threatened .anyway people deal with culture changes better than others I guess all i,m saying is i,m not sure I could retire in this place where i,m at maybe another location by the sea might do it

I agree they do make a financial contributions to the economy. Immigrants to the UK also make a contribution to the economy with their expertise in certain subjects. You do get leeching parasites in the UK because the system allows this to happen. We also get foreign "leching" parasites who think that throwing money around makes them the bees knees!

You obviously think everything is so fantastic there in the Phills
The fact that any "kanu" could criticize the Phills is unpalatable for you
The reason why other Filipino's don't complain about the noise there is because they are afraid to complain
I saw this first hand in Bernabe Compound in Las Pinas City
You are trying to paint a picture that other pinoys dont mind the noise well i totally disagree
Keeping one's noise down is about common decency and respecting other people around you and that is not
immune from the Pinoy culture
The reason why we are seen as snobbish is because some people there envy our wealth
Yes i had to keep isolated sometimes because i did not want anything stolen
As someone else pointed out i see nothing appealing about living in some rat infested barangy where even if you sneeze it could be heard by 5 other households
I put it to you = our minimum standards when it comes to living conditions are much higher than the average barangy there
I like the Philippines and the people there as well but it winds me up when some people lose touch with the real reality of what it is like living in a normal barangy

another thing the fact that my missus don,t want me to go out on my own says a lot to me and no its not because she worried I find another girl its because she don,t trust her own country folk .Its just not safe to wander off on your own in parts of the country life is very cheap here and if some local spots an opportunity they will go for it .I don,t want this thread turned into a battle ground i,m just giving my on the ground opinion of being here for 3 years .The fact that I still can,t speak the lingo either makes me feel isolated too .Since moving here in february to bacolod I have not even met another foreigner even to strike up a conversation with apart from one irish guy who pulled up in a tricycle steaming with a bottle of whisky sticking out his shorts .I thought if he is the example Filipinos see,s no wonder they don,t want to mix with us .but overall the Filipinos i,ve met have been friendly towards me I always wave at them if they are smiling the kids crack me up all the time they just stare at you like your from planet zogg lol .when I return to u.k i,ll see how I feel about my situation at least I have the choice to return ,which is something i,ve stated before think long and hard before you sell up its a big decision to make i,m so glad I kept my house phew .

I cant wait to try my luck over in the phils, if it works then great if not well at least i gave it my best shot,
Like i have said many times , stress, work, weather, and the cost of living here, is why i am off

Tiger I had bad neighbors that were pretty similar to yours , absolute nightmare, as soon as I went to bed I had a gaggle outside our front gates, music, talking till all hours, it made my dogs bark as the squatters opposite us used to sit on our front drive outside our gates,.....:Cuckoo:
Didn't matter how many times I or wife told them, they would stop for 30 mins then just got back to exactaly what they were doing!
In the end we sold the house a lot cheaper then it cost to get away from them, build the place from scratch with a nice pool as well....
Anyway I think if you could move do it, and also you should move somewhere where there are foreigners so you can get time with a bit of chat and gossip with your own kind, dumaguete comes to mind! Plenty of foreigners down there,
If you have friends there it makes it worthwhile living there, but will get loney if just you and wife, we all need space and someone to talk to on our level,,,,,
I for one love the Philippines and as soon as my kids are old enough to stand on their own feet I will be returning to live my days out there, for the weather more then anything else, I love the uk and I love the ph! Will be nice when I can go between,
Hope things work out for you

It only goes to show how different some people can be.. For me,to go back to the UK would be to enter purgatory!! I dread the very thought.. (I actually just shuddered)..
The country that I was born in and loved is no longer the same place anymore...Its gone.
For me.. Leaving the U.K was like leaving a life viewed in black and white (and grey skies) and entering one in glorious technicolour!!!
The truth is that not everyone see`s it that way..
Tell it how you think it is though..
In Australia the story about the blokes in the pub having a whip round for the whinging Poms return flight are all true..

Yes you're right. My experience here in UK is that those types are also noisy.
Must say since we've moved here to UK we've had some terrible experiences with neighbours. We've also at the same time found some great ones too.
We moved 3 times solely to get away from anti-social neighbours. Absolute nightmare and so lucky we were only renters. On one occasion it was so bad we actually left 3 months before our tenancy expired and continued to pay the rent as the landlord wouldn't agree to an early release.
I'm sure there are some nightmare neighbours in Philippines, but fortunately I've not encountered any in any of our places or in fact in those of our family.
My wife's mother's house was actually on a beach. Surrounded by squatter fishermen in small nippa type dwellings. Never any problems and always friendly to me.
Never once caused any issue and never approached me for money. A couple of times I got asked for my T-Shirt though. Usually we'd decide by the toss of a coin....always good for a laugh regardless of the outcome.

Give it time Peter, just give it...I can assure the tapping up for a thousand here and a thousand there will come, especially amongst squatter fishermen. Like Michael said, you know nothing until you move in fulltime
Just a thought:xxgrinning--00xx3:

Thats one thing you dont have any control over. Who's going to move in next to you.
Land in many areas of the R.P is extremely cheap.. I saw some last month for 10 Pesos per sqr meter..
Buy lots and lots of it and dont sell it.. This is how many of us here control problems with future neighbours..
In the UK?
Yeah right!!:icon_lol:

C'mon Mark you have no idea where I've lived, for how long or what I've experienced in any of the countries I've been to.
