ok hands up who admits to sending money to their future loved one before ya met in person .I am guilty as charged lol when I first hooked up with my misus I was very green to the internet dating game and was not even aware of scammers etc etc .so after 2 months I decided to send 30 quid to her even though she never even asked for money or tried the sob story in any way .It was only when the chinese guy in the western union kiosk said to me do you know that this is a lot of money to a philippino and mentioned the word scam that I really sort of thought what if she is ? anyway she was shocked that I sent her money and thought it was a joke ,she sent her sister to collect the money because she did,nt want to be embarressed in case it was a joke lol .I told the chinese guy well its not a lot to me so if it is then I have,nt lost much .Then I sent a further 50 quid 2 weeks later and then we connected on cam for the first time ,she was very shy at first but soon the chatting started to flow and the rest is history 3 years later we are still blissfully happy

Exactly what I plan on doing. Planning to get married at 40 too... I've sort of mentioned her and that I am getting married to my mum. My parents are long divorced and i don't plan on telling my Dad. He's not the easiest of men to talk to and i just can't be bothered to have to go through the lecture.

:cwm24: ... not that private, surely!

I am a very private person..... I've only told my Sister and cousin about the marriage. My sister only found out because she's on Facebook and saw the messages between us. My cousin is like my best mate and i tell her most things.
Other than that i value my privacy and don't give away much!

Was the other way round in our relationship as i was the poor one :cwm25:

My wife lent me 15,000hkd (1,200 pounds) to get my own flat in Hong Kong. At the time i was fond of drinking and spent whatever i earned! After 18 years she is probably regretting that decision

he don't share what he's up to even to his family,, he has just change when he met me.. he still don't like telling people his personal life but he is open to his family now.. no one in his family know i exist until he was due to fly to visit me. if he didn't get drunk few days before his flight, no one will know that he is getting married.

My ex-wife lives in Stockholm now, and my stepdaughter is over there visiting her (she just posted about it on FB this evening).

Also my son's girlfriend is Finnish, but brought up in Sweden...both living here with me now.

My son says everything is really expensive in Sweden, and they don't have big supermarkets like here...so I suppose no 50p cans of lager from Tesco ?

Its strange as I met Rina in person and I was with another woman at the time, something just clicked 3 days later I was hoping I would see Rina again as I got my flight back to the UK.
Fate has a way of getting you - "if you love someone set them free - should our paths cross again forever we will be".
Once we were established I spent a fortune on her - we travelled all over Asia, staying in the best hotels and having as much fun as possible. "those were the days"!
Now we are living as man and wife and Rina looks after me and my parents so well - could never put any price on that but I secretly think those that sow - reap and our lives are so much more positively endowed with goodness now!

Personally I would never send anyone any money before meeting them, but I never have done internet dating so I dont know what strings get pulled.

This is an interesting thread.:xxgrinning--00xx3: David didn't send me money before we met but he sent me books (mostly written by English authors :cwm25: probably to make a point) to keep me occupied:ReadIt:. But before he did that, I had to listen to his :blahblah::blahblah::blahblah: about how broke he was. Now, we're still broke.:laugher:

Despite all the advice not to, I have sent money, and also made some purchases off ebay.ph (paying with Paypal) and will probably continue to do so. OK I know I may be being scammed, but I think I'm a pretty good judge of character, and the endless chats and hours on Skype convince me that she is genuine. The problem is she is still young and studying to be a teacher, and yes I have helped with study costs. The way I figure it, if it does all go wrong, then at least I have helped someone get a foot on the ladder Its an amount I can afford, but that makes the world of difference to her. She is keen for me to visit next year, which I hope I can do.
