Thank you guys. I don't know how does it feel to live in the north. I am scared of boredom, new surroundings, no friends, etc. We live in Southwest this time, just an hour from London. Few months from now we will relocate in Yorkshire, hubby found a job near Keighley. I don't know which town is safe to live and has good school for our children. I heard opinions about Bradford, and I read that Skipton is a peaceful town to live. Well, any town near Keighley that is peaceful, zero or very low criminal rate, good school, great shopping malls with a group of friendly filipinos. Is there such a place?

Hi Mia, and welcome to the forum.

Skipton is a lovely small market town , but with probably everything you need there (like supermarkets, good schools, etc). A very popular tourist destination, surrounded by beautiful countryside, but also with excellent road (and rail ?) links.

I have been there dozens of times.

Keighley, Bradford...not for me. :NoNo: ...but towns between Keighley and Skipton, quite nice. Ilkley and Otley are other nice small towns to consider.

As Michael has said....PLENTY of Filipinas up this way, with active Filipino social clubs, plus Filipino foods available. :xxgrinning--00xx3:

The annual Yorkshire Barrio Fiesta moves to a different town each year, but here are some short vids I made when it was at Ripon race course (Yorkshire) last summer. Hundreds of people there with their families.

Thank you, grahamw48 for the infos. Is there a bus from Skipton to Leeds? And how long does it takes? Can you suggest me a good secondary and primary school in Skipton?

@ Michael, Siquijor and Cebu are just neighbours. :)

Sorry Mia, but I don't know that much detail about the town, but I'm sure they'll have a reasonable bus service.

I've done a bit of googling for you, and as I thought, there is also a train service.

Yorkshire people are very friendly...just don't like spending money.

Particularly Graham :icon_lol:

You will be near Haworth which is a lovely small town where the Bronte sisters grew up and wrote Wuthering Heights amongst others.

The 'In' place to be these days is Ilkley, it's gotten very smart and lots of high flyers live there with some lovely houses.

Thank you, Les. I will consider those places you mentioned, but I heard houses in Ilkley are expensive and most people living there are pensioners. Not sure if it is true. I am after a less crowded place, with good shops, safe place to live in and quite posh, lol. :xxgrinning--00xx3::xxgrinning--00xx3: I want a place where there is good secondary and primary school, must be 30 minutes drive away from Steeton. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Skipton is nice...and easier in the morning traffic. I think that would be my first choice in that area. You can look up the OFSTED reports for different schools, but I haven't heard anything bad about the ones in Skipton, and you do tend to get a better class of people being attracted to living in the place, so hopefully your kids won't have to go to school with too many hooligans.

Some of the smaller places like Silsden may be pretty, but might leave you feeling a bit isolated (I'm sure Haworth will be very dear for property), while Keighley and Bradford area will feel like Pakistan. :cwm25:

You will be ok in the North, very friendly and there is the Barrio where you can meet a lot of us.

I was at the last Barrio at Ripon but i missed the elusive Graham with his camera.

Also there's a Filipino Club in Bradford.

Or....just head for the nearest Catholic church or a hospital or care home.

You do realise you will need to learn a new language. "Yorkshire" is very complex, and despite having been born in the beautiful county, I still haven't mastered it. I have mastered the bewildered look in small shops when trying to decipher the conversation...
