Long Term Family Visit Visa

Hi Guys we have a Filipina friend who's mother is currently over here on a Long Term family visit visa which is due to expire in 2015.
Our friend wants to extend her mums current stay beyond the 6 month limit. I have read the UKBA site on this and my interpretation is that it cannot be extended beyond 6 months.
Am I right ?
