Thinking of using Philippine Airlines for the advantage of a direct flight through to Manila. Has anybody used this airline before? If so, can u tell me do they have the personal tvs in Economy Class? That's the main thing i care about really. Don't wanna be bored :cwm25:

I booked my tickets online with EmailFlights.com for a direct flight to Manila with Philippine Airlines for £548 - it seemed Email flights had the best deal.

Its a bloomin' long flight on the return - 15hrs 45mins for us last time. Did the departure time change, or just the check-in time? Are you sure it isn't something to do with the clock changes (+1hr here, no change there).

05.45 am is the departure time, I suppose check in will be an hour and half before that...:cwm25:

I checked in 3 hours before in MNL and the queue was massive.. so i would go early.. seen a number of return flights delayed... so make sure you have lots of time for your public transport

I'm very impressed with Singapore Airlines....couldn't find a single weakness in the last flight we took with them. Excellent.
For us, price alone is not the decider

Philippine Airlines were great :xxgrinning--00xx3:
online check in worked well
Terminal 4 Heathrow a breeze
All flights left on time and arrived on time
Terminal 2 at Manila was fine
Food and service on both flights was good
Direct flights are the way to go and I ended up with less jet lag also

I would have flown with them but at £200 more than what I paid for Ethiad I'd rather have the change of plane and at least break up the journey and stretch my legs.... But if the price had been a bit closer to Ethiad I would have chosen them..... Saying that though, they were not flying on my selected dates anyway...
Plus I work at Heathrow airport and have been looking out for them and I can tell you they are not the best at departing on time or for that matter arriving on time! You were lucky

Wd enough complaints Im sure that will change.....Going by LM's experience, it looks like they are beginning to wise up and accept the fact the western traveller won't put up wd such poor service.

None of that waiting around and falling in line for connecting flights

I'm looking at possibly going October thru to Nov. You're right though, the extra is worth it just to miss the additional security checks. .what a bind. The single flight has got me wanting to go back.

From 6 August 2014, Philippine Airlines will remove its modern Boeing 777-300ER (370 seats) from its five weekly Manila - London (Heathrow) and return flights, substiuting an older Airbus A340-300 (264 seats). The Boeing planes have close to lie flat business class seats so unfortunately this is a downgrade in aircraft quality on this long route, while one traveller posted on another forum I booked with Emirates LHR-Manila flight time 17.5hrs (1 hr in Dubai) £590.
PAL same route 15.5hrs (rtn one day after due to no flights on Friday) was £780.

Never flown with them and never will. It must not be paying to have that aircraft on this route.
There are better routes and options out there.

Well, if the prices were lower - and I was the only one flying - might give them a try as long as they stay out of Ukraine!

I'm off to Manila in December so am keeping an eye on the flight situation.
PAL don't have the rights ( ie aren't prepared to pay the grossly inflated Russian charges and / or bribe the right officials ) to fly over Russian airspace so at present the flight takes a big detour south over India adding 2 / 3 hours to the journey times.
http://www.businesstraveller.com/news/pals-long-and-slow-route-to-europe
Reports are that this will change from August but the downside is that this allows PAL to change the plane they fly LHR-MNL to the Airbus A340 which is a poorer quality plane that the Boeing 777s that they fly at the moment.

Interesting to hear about the flight routes/times. I thought the PAL journey time was longer than it should be.
The A340 is a better plane than the 777, so don't worry about that.

As long as the flights are still direct I don't mind what aircraft they use
Actual flying time will come down if they fly over Russia so that's a bonus
