hi all.
I think I might be having a problem with my car insurance ncd :Brick:. I'm looking to change my current insurance company to a cheaper one, I sent 13 years proof of ncd last year to my current insurance company, so I should be expecting 14 years ncd from them, but when I rang them to lapse my insurance they said I have 9 years maximum ncd. I had a quote from Swift £460 with 14 years ncd, I changed it to 9 years ncd and the quote has gone up to £570.
I haven't received proof of my ncd yet, but what should I do if it says 9 years ncd, I'm getting a bit fed up of insurance companies making my ncd vanish, I've never made a claim and I should be on about 18 years ncd by now.
thanks in advance

I believe 9 years may be the maximum recognised ?
My insurance company is the same...and I haven't claimed since Punk Rock was in the charts.
Shop around or consult a broker.

NCB is earned. Generally, for every year that a driver has insurance on a car without making a claim, they will earn another year's NCB to a maximum of 5 years. Some companies offer further discounts for 6-8 years of claims-free driving, but generally the maximum figure is 5 years.

Thanks guys, I've got my quotes from Moneysuremarket, the highest ncd it has on the drop down list is 20+ years and my quote became £440 with Swift.
The cheapest quote is £300 with (Goskippy) stays the same if I put 9 or 20+ and stays at £300 with my Vectra 2.2 and £300 with my next car Volvo v70 d5 or the Saab 3.0 tid but goes up over £550 with my future car (Nissan 200sx)
I wanted to go with Swift because its £300 with the Volvo v70 d5 and the Saab 3.0 tid and only £265 with the Nissan 200sx but that's with 14 years ncd, all will be £150 more with 9 years ncd, the only problem with swift is that my 2.2 sri Vectra is £460 14 years ncd, I need to contact Swift to see if they will refund the difference when I get a new car that's a cheaper quote.
I'll be getting a new car in the near future, so Swift will be the best for me and not have to change when I get new cars, so I realy need my proof of ncd

have you thought about getting a smaller engine car that way you might get the insurance down a little Tony
I always shop around and have just saved £57 from my insurance too

Got me confused as to how many cars Tony actually owns. :Erm: :icon_lol:
I have my business car insured on one policy, which attracts a NCB, and my other (group 50 :cwm24:) car on 'Classic Car' insurance for about 140 quid a year, fully comp but limited mileage, no NCB.
You need to own at least 2 vehicles to take advantage of the classic car insurance deals though...but you can insure some pretty amazing vehicles very cheaply.

I'd love to have a NCB, but I keep crashing....

Multi car policy :Erm:
I'm thinking of changing the Ultima for a more sensible weekend toy, but I'm dreading to think what the insurance premium would be :omg:

Thought you sold them once you received the bus pass :Erm:

One of them...temporarily.
The situation is always changing. My cars come and go, but the insurance stays the same, and in force, ready for when I succumb to temptation. :xxgrinning--00xx3:

My insurance is via the Civil Service. I always 'shop around' but so far not found a reason to change.
Price alone is not a good enough reason for me to switch.
It's often said you only discover how good the insurance is when the time comes to claim.
I've got almost 40 years driving without a single claim (except for windscreen replacement)
My NCD has been 75% ever since joining my current insurer.
I needed to replace my windscreen a couple of years ago and it was all done without any contribution/excess from me and without any impact on my NCD or premium.
For me the important thing is what's included in the insurance cover.
We all have different needs and 50% NCD of a specific needed cover may be better value/cheaper than 70% NCD of another. Depends on the basis premium and what included.
Good hunting Tony......do some homework on policies

My Dad always used to say the test of good insurance is when it's time for them to pay out. That's a brilliant driving record Terpe :xxgrinning--00xx3:

One major crash 20 odd years ago, no claim made as the driver I smashed into wasn't insured. Completely my fault but my car was worth nowt so didn't bother claiming. So been claim free and crash free :Erm: for almost 23 years

Apart from the back wheel coming off one of my TVRs back in 2006, nothing since I wrote one of my Lotus 7s off in 1979. :cwm25:
I suppose considering I've been a high mileage business driver since being 20, not too bad.
Oh, and a clean licence since my 3 points came off in 1973.

Thanks guys, I contacted a plan a after I received my ncb from them with only 9 years protected, only 1 year was protected not 9. anyway I told them that my new insurer has gone up from £460 14 years ncb to £570 9 years ncb., he said he will send out a new ncb for me with the 14 years, he was very helpful but it sounded like he had never heard of this problem before. im just waiting for the new ncb now and I found a picture of my old ncb with 13 years ncb on it if I can stil use that.
ive got one car at the moment but I need to sell it and get a diesel estate, I also have a van but this is off the road at the moment, its a projest im working on, escort mk4 van

A Plan sent me back the Ncd I had from Aflux 13 years, so all should be ok now.
I've had quotes from Money Supermarket, Swift was £300 fully comp, so I rang them to confirm this price, they said there's no record of my reg so the price shot up to £470. I did the quotes again online and yes it was £470.
Anyway, went on again so I could pay for it today and it has shot up to £570, but is still £300 for a 200SX, so I said balls to it and I've gone with Go Skippy now tpft £300, but Go Skippy wants £570 for a 200SX if I ever get one.
Anyway, I did a change from the car being parked on the road to being parked in a garage, and all the quotes went up to my surprise, so I'm guessing there's a lot of accidents when people pull out of their garages onto the road?

If the 200SX is an older model, and a second car, try it on classic car insurance through Adrian Flux (something they specialise in). That's who I insured my TVRs through...very cheaply. :)
Every time you hit those websites, they put the price up, as with airline ticket quotes. :NoNo:
