he passport fee for customers applying for a UK passport from overseas will be reduced by £45 for adults and £28.50 for children from 7 April 2014.

As part of the repatriation process, the Regional Passport Processing Centre in Washington closed in November 2013, and the last overseas passport was issued in New Zealand on 7 March 2014. As a result, Her Majesty’s Passport Office in the UK is now the sole provider of passport services for British nationals. The resulting efficiency savings have enabled a reduction in price in order to give the fee payer better value for money.

John L. Smith, Consular Regional Director for North America and the Caribbean said:

This price reduction will be welcomed by all British expats in the region. With the cost of an emergency travel document at £95, it makes even more sense for British nationals to keep their passports up to date rather than dealing with the stress of having an expired passport when there is a sudden need to travel and relying on an emergency document for a single journey.

The new passport fees from 7 April are:
Passport Current Fee New Fee Reduction
Adult 32 page £128.00 £83.00 £45.00
Child 32 page £81.50 £53.00 £28.50
Veteran 32 page £0.00 £0.00 £0.00
Jumbo 48 page (child/adult/veteran) £154.50 £91.00 £63.50

Additionally, you can now apply online for your passport and track your application if you pay by credit card.

Hopefully they will send some more staff members back to the UK, as the list of things the consulate CAN'T do for you seems to grow every year.
