Virgin upgraded my speed to 100Mbps :xxgrinning--00xx3:

:yikes:

Blimey Les....that sound's massive ....

I just now did a test on my BT line and the line speed came out at 21.8Mb connection speed to my hub and then 13.8Mb from hub to laptop.

I thought my connection was pretty good.....:Erm:

But don't you only get that 'supersonic speed' if you're accessing content hosted in the same area, on the same ISP's network.???

I don't know but it sounds so much more than mine......which I'm actually quite happy with

I just ignore the Virgin rubbish.

I'm supposed to have some sort of fast cable broadband.

It's pretty useless, and Virgin are full of :censored: like most of these marketing cowboys.

les_taxi
26th March 2014, 21:44
To be fair Graham, I have never had a problem with them, works perfectly and I don't get involved with the marketing guys.

Can't tell you till it's enabled Steve in next day or so, I can download an 85 mb album in a few secs so guessing nearly instant.

grahamw48
26th March 2014, 21:44
Just tested mine.

32mb/s download speed.

1.01 mb/s upload speed.

That's through my wi-fi hub (though this PC is connected directly to it).

You don't really need that speed - but since I do a fair bit of downloading, it just saves me time.

Except BT said 13Mbs and this latest test drops it down to 12Mbs :bigcry:

I'll find that cable and connect it to my hub and see what difference it makes......more later

As a company they are horrible-many complaints about them but they do by far and away have the best product,so as long as you don't have to ring em it's all good.
Dont forget most of the other so called independent suppliers all use Bt's fibre cable so you end up dealing with two sets of idiots.
My son is having a problem now-he is with talk talk but Bt own the fibre line and it's causing a lot of :censored: about.

I was with o2 2007 till this Feb, initially got Broadband free 'cos mobile phones with them, they reneged on that a couple of years ago & have been paying them £6.50 a month. What happens last Sept or so they flog their home broadband to Sky. This Feb I had a nightmare of a switch over mainly due to Skys inability to help me configure MS Outlook correctly using a non Sky domain - sorted after about 7 days. They've done me a deal of 12 months at £5.00 per month, when the times up I'll probably go for BT Fiber as I loath Virgin and all the stuff they want to sell you with the broadband. There is also history round here of yobs easily breaking into the Virgin cable roadside boxes
