CFO proof of being single?

Hi guys,

My fiancee got her visa last week ... But just returned form CFO in Manila. They refused to give her the sticker because she didn't have proof that I was single?? They showed her a copy of a 'Certificate of No Impediment' issued by the Embassy in Manila. As far as I am aware, these are only given by the Embassy when you want to marry in the Phillipines.

I cannot get such a certificate from UK, because you need to register your intention to marry first, but can't do that until fiancee is here. What nonsense is this? How do you get around this? I'm going to my solicitor to get a sworn affidavit.

You been married before, if so 1 copy of your divorce papers is good enough. Apart from that a solicitors letter should do.

i think its easy to prove youre single---just produce a bank statement

The speaker at CFO who conducted the seminar wanted to see your divorce paper to check whether you are divorced or not.

Ummm... I was never ever married!! Bank statements do NOT show marital status, nor do UK tax certificates. They're asking to prove a negative.
