View Full Version : Philippine Airlines

When I am traveling on a plane, I like to watch the inflight map and see whereabouts we are.

What I don't want is to be informed where Mecca is every 5 minutes with an arrow.

The Philippines is not classed as a Muslim country so why does Philippine Airlines do it?

I have no problem with Middle Eastern airlines doing it and expect it from them anyway.

Remove this offensive arrow Philippine Airlines, or I will go back to using Cathay Pacific and watch their inflight maps with no arrows.

Couldn't agree more.

Why the hell any normal civilised person would want to
have any part in this primitive nonsense I have no idea.

It's bad enough being 'forced' to eat halal meat on Muslim airlines.

At a guess, for every one person getting wound up because of an arrow on a screen, and then saying they'd rather spend an extra 5 hours getting to their destination so they wont be offended by an arrow, there's a lot more that will chose to fly with them because the arrow is there :Erm:

The Philippines is not classed as a Muslim country so why does Philippine Airlines do it?

5% of population is Islamic, 80.9% Roman Catholic, 4.5% other Christian, 2.8% Evangelical, Iglesia ni Kristo (2.3%), Aglipayan (2.0%), Other (1.8%), Unspecified and none (0.7%)

So after Roman Catholics, Muslims make up the next biggest group....perhaps that's why they show a little arrow pointing to Mecca?

Dedworth
12th May 2014, 12:50
5%** of the UK population is Muslim and there is already excessive kowtowing to them - I'd avoid any British airline that used such markers.

** Muammar Gaddafi 2006 - "There are signs that Allah will grant Islam victory in Europe - without swords, without guns, without conquests. The 50 million muslims of Europe will turn it into a muslim continent within a few decades." Obviously this few decades will reduce if the EU admit Turkey

It's all down to the software provider, and where their flights go.

I have a much bigger gripe with a little Filipina having to pay for 2kg excess luggage, when a 150kg US woman behind her pays nothing extra.

Went with them last month, flights on time, food good, in-flight entertainment good, attendants good, only gripe were the small seats, if your tall the headrest sits at the top of your back and not your head!! all in all a good service and I would definitely fly with them again....:xxgrinning--00xx3::xxgrinning--00xx3:

Airlines from Muslim countries do it and Philippine Airlines is just following them (wrongly)

Flights from Manila to the middle east there might be a good case for doing it

Flights to any other non muslim country then this should be removed

I am sure most European and American citizens dont want to see this when the happen to try and find out where the plane is in the sky

Only 5% of the population are muslims then thats an even bigger reason for the Philippines national flag carrying airline not to do it

Surely its not needed anyway as most muslims carry a compass around with them

Halal meat.... Dead is dead. Regardless of how an animal dies for us to eat it, we are still killing it.

Most of the meat in the Philippines is not killed humanely, as defined in the EU, most just bleed to death while awake.

So any westerners worried about arrows and meat, should fly with another airline, and become a vegetarian while in the Phil to ensure that they have nothing to moan about.

There are usually two map options on new planes these days. One does not have the arrow. That's the way it was on Qatar anyway.

Wouldn't be surprised if forums like these weren't monitored by airlines when their name crops up to get some feedback. Could be that some passengers might be refused boarding if the airline thought they were going to make a fuss during the flight :Erm:

I have travelled with them about 5 times now on the long haul from Heathrow to Manila and I guess my only "observation" is that they are not very attentive during "dark hours" when people are sleeping and others like me who cant sleep on any moving form of transport aren't. Also when you press the "call a flight attendant" button, sometimes you can wait for a long time before they arrive.

On Emirates, the flight crew regularly walk round with a tray of either water, apple or orange juice for those that are still awake...... it makes such a difference to your comfort

OH!! I do have one rant!! Why do flight attendants insist on putting the pat of butter UNDER the hot meal??? Twice now in attempting to butter my roll I have had liquid butter pour onto my T shirt when I have been attempting to open it

I used Philippine Airlines as didn't want a stop over with kids.

That's the only good thing the non stop. The rest was bad. Food was worst I have ever had on a plane. The plane was dirty - old food under seats - also smelly. 1 of my kids got a rash - we all were scatching from seats. No amenity kits, no kids meals. We ordered no drinks or snacks, the cabin crew were not that friendly towards us.

I won't be using them again - only my return to UK. I would sooner have stop overs and fly with a good airline.

Even Kuwait and Saudi are better than Phil Air.

Next time I will go with Thai, Singapore, Malaysian or Etihad

I make sure I have a full English breakfast before I board any flight and then i don't get high blood when the choice of meal provided by the airline is not available "sorry sir we only have fish and noodles left"

Airline food normally goes along these lines

A rock hard white crusty roll with deep frozen unsalted butter
A horrible pasta starter that few people even attempt eating
Main course is always over salty with plenty of skin
A sickly kind of mousse desert

Snacks later noodles normally Nissin chicken variety

Cathay Pacific leave a soft drinks trolley outside their galley
You just go and help yourself and it has plenty of nice snacks also

On my last trip with Philippine Airlines i went to the galley and asked if they had anything sweet to eat

The air hostess looked at me with amazement and said no we don't have anything sweet but I can give you a packet of peanuts!

If I lived in Tondo and I had to scrounge around for food everyday then maybe airline food would be ok.

The problem is I don't.

I am not expecting 3 star Michelin restaurant quality food on an aircraft. Something more than stodge and salt is surely not too much to ask for.

The mass produced meals provided by the likes of "Gate Gourmet", I find uninspiring, dull and bland to the point that I have to bring my own provisions along.

Its normally more than 3 times the economy fare which I feel is unreasonable

Premium economy is not worth the extra for what you actually get also

I will continue to use "cattle class" along with my own provisions of course

I love Philippine Airlines!!

Flew with them twice this year April and July
take note:
No Delays ( 13hours London-Manila) - (11 1/2 hrs Manila to London) how good is that ??
Food?? ... I am not a BIG eater of airline foods, they are the same as hospital foods in my opinion!!
but
I indulged with nice drinks : Beer and Whiskey and a big bottle of mineral water as it hydrates me and make me go to the toilet more often to ease my boredom during the fiight.

I actually found the food on Philippine Airlines not that bad at all
I make sure I have a full English breakfast before I board any flight and then i don't get high blood when the choice of meal provided by the airline is not available[B] "sorry sir we only have fish and noodles left"

Did they served FISH?? :cwm25: ... I don't think so!

There seems to be mixed reviews over PAL I,ve just looked at another forum on the topic and most of the comments are very negative - like never fly with them again kinda stuff. I think I,ll stick to Cathay Pacific as I can,t fault them yet.

Whatever it was when they got to my seat they only had 1 choice left
I wanted the rice option and it was all gone

Maybe it was not noodles either pasta to be precise = same thing anyway

Nothing to worry about, Philippine Airlines were great

Look on the thread title "Where are the cheap flights" I made a mistake on Philippine Airlines Harry I read it wrong. Just check out the thread I've mentioned here and call 'Philippine Island Connections'. If you can't call them between 10am and 5pm they are available Saturday 10am to 3pm, you will find them very helpful and reliable! :xxgrinning--00xx3:

That looks a very good website, thank you Michael, I am awaiting a price from Malaysian, it says £559, but not for Christmas and New Year dates.
