The last time I went home about 2 years ago and still holding a spouse visa at the time and at the check in counter in NAIA back to UK they told me to pay the PHP 1620 travel tax unfortunately me and my hubby don't have Phil money already aside from the Php 550 airport fee each. :doh:Brick:

I didn't know that I still need to pay the tax.:NoNo: Its a midnight flight can't find any cash machine somewhere inside the airport and the forex is closed already:bigcry: I have only £20 left on my wallet my only money back to UK I have no option but to used it for the Php 1620 tax I asked them to give back my change because that's the only money I have ( pa awa effect ) I need the change to buy drinks etc...they gave me Php 200 change:BouncyHappy:

This coming Dec 24 we're going homeagain:BouncyHappy::BouncyHappy::BouncyHappy: Now I will have to leave spare Phil money for the tax so no hussle at all no pa awa effect:bigcry:

But someone told me that once your a residence already no need to pay the travel tax. Is it true? I hope so, for sure my hubby will be the most happiest person bec he hates that Php 550 airport fee :furious3: most of all that Php 1620 travel tax he said its a midnight robbery.

My wife paid only a 200 peso processing fee at the counter and she was on spouse visa.

Correct! If they insist on you paying the tax, show them the Residency stamp, and as Andypaul says, you only pay a P200 processing fee. You need to pay this fee at the Tourism Counter located on the left hand side as you enter the airport (have I got that right? ), and if some snotty-nose jobsworth says you have to pay P1620, ask to speak to someone more senior (as I found out!)

you holding a spouse visa so you dont need to pay 1620pesos just only 200pesos for processing fee,if you are ILR holders you still pay a travel tax but just only 200pesos tell them what visa you got bcoz they don't check it

I think you don't need to pay travel tax, you only pay the terminal fee which is already 750.00.

The last time I went Philippines I paid PhP 200.00 tax and I am using my British Passport. All you need to do is go to the booth on the right side as you enter inside the airport and get for tax exemption or you can get that on your local tourism office. Hope it helps.

I had to pay this for both my wife and my step daughter, P1620 and P1000 respectively. We also had to pay a P200 fee and fill in a very long winded form for my step daughter to get the CFO sticker on her passport because it was the first time she had come to the UK. We only had about 700 - 800 Pesos left in local currency, so I was escorted to the only cash machine which was downstairs in arrivals to withdraw cash. This was after we had waited in line and got to the front of the check in queue.

I think unless you have got "Indefinate Leave To Remain" in the UK you are not regarded as resident in this country and are therefore liable to pay this tax.

I was very surprised about this as my wife didn't have to pay this when she fist came here in September 2006 so I tried to argue with them about it, but they stuck to their guns and being unsure about it I had to concede and pay up. Can anyone clarify exactly what the law behind this tax is as far as it applies to women who hold spousal visas?

So if you were a Phill born but just a Brit citzen would they still try to charge you 200 pesos what a con lets hope Gordons not reading this

My wife only had a spouse visa but the guy asked something along the lines are you with your hubby (for whatver reason she said no) have you been in uk for long she said yep and asked did she work again she said yep. Then 200 pesos was asked for and then had to queue in another queue which looked utter chaos to my western eyes.

Atleast now I've got an idea Im glad I brought this topic here:) actually that experience I had at the airport is not nice specially for my husband that I have to bargain something that is not properly explain to us. So, next time I need to exercise my right to know isnt' it?

Now I know that only 200 pesos and I will insist it.
