View Full Version : Are Phone Cards All A Rip Off?

I am new to phone cards. So far I have tried two: Lucky and Cobra. Both, to some extent, cheat. Cobra was the worst - an apparent 220 minutes of talk time lasted about 30 minutes. One call said 22 minutes left but I got cut off after 3 minutes.
This seems to be simple cheating to me. :cwm23: Are some cards better than others?

the best one i used is "PURPLE"
all the calling cards i have ever bought and used over this last 8 months, i kept them all safe in an envelope for when the time comes to get a spouse visa, and they were all in a bag with my communication with mar, and my PASSPORT and all documents indicating financial support, and my car insurance certificate and my car's registration and i cannot find them at all aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhh

Some prefer to pay up front so when its run out you can't carry on.
Also i guess mobiles, some people use others phone lines so no problem if you call local or 0800 number i guess.

I have a different approach. All my precious documents are scattered randomly through various filing cabinets, under beds, in boxes, or on my desk. This guarantees that they will neber all be lost at the same time . . . :Brick:

YES, YOU ARE RIGHT, COBRA IS THE WORST EVER I TRIED... BEFORE, I HAD BEEN USING PURPLE BUT SOMEONE ENDORSED COBRA TO ME BECAUSE IT HAS LOADS OF MINUTES FREE...BUT THE FIRST TIME I USED IT WAS REALLY A DISASTER...GOOD CHEATER...
I WENT BACK TO USING PURPLE...BETTER THAN BONUS AND SWIFTY CALL, HEHE...

Hahaha, apologies if I no longer changed the script from all caps to normal letters because I type the keys so fast that I no longer want to erase them and retype them.
I wasn't shouting though, hehe, apologies...

Hi,
I use this service - text the word CARD to 88077. For £5, you get 100 minutes. 5p a minute. BUT... and it is a big BUT... initially they were charging 11p a minute. When I challenged them, they fixed it. But today - the charge was 11p a minute. I have mailed them, and will let you know the outcome.
What are the best ways to call the Philippines? I would be using a mobile, because I am at work throughout the day and call my gf just before she goes to bed.
Thanks
Ady

hello...
There are numerous ways to use this service, and you can even install to any modern cellphone.
www.vyke.com
lets say you call to a mobile phone in the PH.
Vyke IP from computer or Mobile IP: 0.08 GBP pr min
Vyke mobile from cell to cell: 0.18 GBP pr min
Vyke callback from landline to cellfone: 0.11GBP pr min.
IP to landline:8,56p pr min
If she have broadband, and vyke installed.
calls to UK landline are free.
and to mobile: 8.82p pr min.
Chikka messenger:
And also i belielve that "chikka messenger" are free also in uk.
You can send free messages to her mobile for free.
And she can send to your moblie for free from a computer, or 2,5peso to reply you message to your chikka client.
www.globe7.com
They have clients for both PC and PDA
and you can call PH for a little as 5-6pence.
Now in this new world we can get cellfones equiped with WLAN.
And that opens for a lot of fun. Many operators offers configurations
to your Windows device or Nokia or whatever.
For me that means i can call from my home or mobile in LAN hotspot...from Norway, or anywhere to PH mobile for only 0,08 GBP.
OR from anywhere in the world in a hotspot to landline home for free!
And Thats cheap!
