I am building a holiday house at my wife's parents' Plot. They give us some land to build a small house, so last year we started

We have all the hollow block work done but we had to stop the build due to no spare cash now we want to start our build again

We have to get someone to come and fabricate steel trusses at our site. I have no idea on costs so I have asked my father in law to get me prices and I'll hire some guys at 300 pesos per to install

It's only a small 3 bedroom bungalow

Has anyone built a house and have you any advice - or can you recommend someone that can fabricate roof trusses on site that has all their own equipment??

House size is 80 square meters

I am trying to figure out prices for trusses and purlins to get an idea of how much this stage of the build is going to cost

Its really tough if you are not there to canvass different prices from different companies or people that are in the roofing business or simply have a welding shop etc....
Are you there to supervise or not?
If the house is made of Concrete posts, beams etc then there is no real rush to get as many quotes as you possibly can and compare them..Also get quotes for wood trusses instead of metal and again compare.. Roofing sheets are easy to compute in regards price as prices can be found online.
To give you an idea,Here in Bohol, this roof sheeting is from memory 4 meters long and costs about 700.00PHP per sheet.. Many local dealers and agents charge double..The prices I give are from large reputable hardware stores.

As I say..Its tough to get advice as to prices for your particular roofing as much depends on the materials specified on your plan and the guy that says he can do it..
Trust no one...I repeat!!..Get quotes from as many dealers as possible and compare..
After an agreement, dont make final payment unless you receive the quality that you expect!

:icon_sorry:, Patrick if I've :hijacked: your topic. But I'm immediately reminded of 'Last Train to San Fernando' an American pop song dating back to 1957 when I was 12/13.

Now ... :anerikke: ... with the possible exception of Mick Cant, Michael Parnham, John Carr and myself :olddude: ... I very much doubt if any ANY of our members are of an age to remember it! :NoNo:

Hi Patrick, whereabouts in San Fernando is your wife from.. I am from there as well. Yeah, hardwares there don't do the online thing like B&Q and Homebase does.. but I guess it's best for you to be there whilst doing the construction. Better to be hands-on, I say.

Hi Patrick,

My husband built a house here in Barili but mostly with wood. We bought roofing sheets from "Cebu Atlantic Hardware" in Tabunok, Talisay. It is a big hardware retail/wholesale.

Maybe you can make a list and ask one of your relative to visit to their store then they can give you a quote.

They do free delivery with minimum purchase of 40K php.

Regarding fabricating steel trusses, I think you can hire local people who know how to do them. Mostly welders deal with this type of job.

Hope it helps. Good luck :)
