Hi guys,
hope you're all well.
As you may already know, myself and Levin are getting married in November this year.
We will marry in a Registry Office.
One of the requirements is for me to get a character reference.
Can anyone tell me:
1. Who I can get this from?
2. What needs to be included in this reference?
3. Must the reference follow specific questions or topics?
4. How many references I need to get. i.e. from > 2 referees < or what?
5. Any other points which may be important for me to note?
Any help on this would be great.
Thanks very much for reading and helping.

A past or present employer or your local Surgery will help you with Character reference Eddie!:xxgrinning--00xx3:

Are you sure this is needed?
Who said so? And for what?
For marriage licence?
Or
Marriage ceremony?

Hi guys, and thanks for the replies.
I heard that there is a reference required through this link:
http://irishfilipinamarriage.wordpress.com
However, this is an old website - it appears to be from 1997 - (reference to 1997 on the site..)
Here is the text which made me believe I needed a reference:
"The couple may then apply for a “Marriage License” at the Office of the Civil Registrar at the local Municipal Offices where the Filipino contracting party habitually resides.
Have on hand the following documents (and photocopies) to show to the Registrar:-
6. A moral character reference from Ireland which takes the form of a letter or certificate from a person of authority.
A social worker, health or education officer, or church minister who has direct personal knowledge of the prospective foreign spouse’s character as well as background."
However, Levin asked the Registry Office what we will need, and a reference was NOT mentioned..however I just wanted to use you guys as a soundboard on this topic.
@Terpe: Would like to hear what you have to say about this. Just making 100% sure.
@Michael: It's interesting how you have come across the need for a reference already?
Can I ask what you needed it for, and when you got married?
Thanks
Terpe

It's not something that I've heard about for a long, long time.
At one time the British Embassy would ask for one in order to supply a CNI ....... but that requirement has long since gone.
I've never been made aware of a character reference for either a marriage licence or for a marriage ceremony.
Having said that, I'm not familiar with any specific detailed Irish Embassy requirement or CNI requirement.
Slip may I suggest you contact the Irish Embassy for the latest updated info as applicable to Irish Citizens. Especially with regard to CNI

Hi Terpe,
This requirement is at the local Registry Office in Levin's home town, therefore should not have been any different from a UK citizen going about this process..
For this reason, I am confident that it's not required - since Levin has already got confirmation from her local Registry Office that a reference is not required.
Thanks again.
