What are you cooking for your lunch? Dinner? Tea?
Living in a foreign country makes you miss the foods that you are used to eat. In Philippines, most of the people eat mung beans during Fridays but I just craved for a Filipino food so I decided to cook mung beans on Thursday lol.
Some usual ingredients of this sautéed mung beans aren't available in our local supermarket so I searched for some alternatives that I can use.
Meat here is quite expensive and I don't really like to use pork so I used tuna in sunflower oil instead.
Bittermelon leaves aren't available as well so it was a hard decision for me to try this strange (for me) kale leaves. It turned so well, and good thing about kale, it's not bitter as bitter melon leaves but it can absorb the taste of the sautéed mung beans!
Ingredients:
Virgin coconut oil
Mung beans
Garlic
Tomatoes
Onion
Half tin of tuna in sunflower oil
Curly kale leaves
Pepper
Salt
Little bit of fish sauce
First time I tasted it and all the memories in PH came back, felt like my mama is just cooking beside me. 😢

If you have Farmfoods nearby, you can get frozen salmon at reasonable price. For 500g pack (4 pcs), we get it for £3/pack if we buy 5 packs or buy 3 packs for £10. :)

That brings back some long forgotten memories :yikes:
Had Shredded Wheat every week of my life Peter, whilst living in Philippines I found it in Robinsons also never had any desire to even try foreign food because of the look of it. I love English food and I eat in moderation I've never weighed more than 11 stone 10 pounds, as a child was brought up on Malt & Cod liver oil, various cereals, Kippers, Finny Haddock, Tripe and onions, all roast dinners with Yorkshire Pudding, Rice pudding, etc, on Sunday was allowed 1 little square of Cadburys dairy milk chocolate that was my weekly treat. Good old days and very happy days!:xxgrinning--00xx3:
