It's worth paying for Flightradar24 on a smartphone as you can point it at a plane in the sky, and it tells you what it is. Very clever. It also has more info, and the ads vanish.

Better plane models. Tap on any airport and see a live departure /arrival board and get custom alerts.

Yes, I use the unpaid version and they recently changed it so you have to keep logging in every 30 minutes. Useful, and I would pay for it if I used it more frequently.
