22 passengers, crew injured as SIA plane hits turbulence

SINGAPORE – Twenty-two passengers and crew were injured when an Airbus A380 plane operated by Singapore Airlines (SIA) and travelling from the city-state to Mumbai hit sudden turbulence during descent, the carrier said Sunday, October 19.

Wind shear.

Cause of many airline accidents over the years resulting in some fatalities.

The plane that plunged into the sea in Indonesia last year was said to have encountered wind shear. Fortunately all on board survived.

I did that one but changed at Singapore. Have they lengthened the runway at Davao? Best plane I have ever been on.

Still need to change at Singapore, then a 50min stop in Cebu but for us a less hassle and cost than going via Manila.

That A380 is a great plane and the seating and cabin space upstairs is just the best.

I don't think the runway has been changed since the last extension in 2001.

If you booked a different day you can get direct from Singapore to Davao, pain in the ass Cebu as you have to get off the plane then back on :NoNo:

Apparently this is a round trip for 'Silkair' ... :anerikke: ... since the majority of passengers who embark at Cebu are bound for Singapore via Davao rather than just travelling to Davao itself.

Keep your seatbelts on kids. I see so many people unclip once the light goes off, or not re-clip once they sit back down from a toilet/locker visit. The guy next to me on the way back from Barcelona last week unclipped as soon as the light went out. He wasn't going anywhere. Worried me to be honest, if the worst happens and he goes up, breaks his neck on the ceiling and then hits me on the way back down...

I've been in 'big' turbulence in a 747 over the Rockies (US) before. Nice rodeo ride, but some people were sh1tting themselves when the crew became airborne on the way to their seats (they were holding seats and their bodies 'floated' up in the air).

If you don't like turbulence then don't sit at the back of the plane, it pivots around its axis, the wing/engines.

Someone told me (Might have been on here, can't remember) never ever get an afternoon flight into or out of Barcelona or Genoa. That's when the heat has built up enough in the mountains to cause turbulence and electrical storms, with a white knuckle ride almost guaranteed.

I absolutely hate turbulence, I know it's safe (unless you're in the toilet or not strapped in), but it's not good. On the same theme though I detest roller coasters and rubbish like that, so it's probably in the same league.

I had two or three small episodes of turbulence flying to Singapore on the A380 and the same on the way back.

Terpe I saw a video on the new Terminal two at Heathrow. You use self check in terminals and then take your check in luggage to a luggage station.

Looks like a good way to do it and I'm looking forward to the views of the planes.
