The best beaches of the Philippines

The Philippines are generating a buzz as a less-discovered alternative to southeast Asian beach hotspots like Bali and southern Thailand. It's not hard to see why. The country has more than 7000 islands, most boasting at least an idyllic beach or two. It's easy to navigate (English is widely spoken) and increasingly affordable to get to, as regional budget airlines add Manila to their route maps.

For a travel writer who claims to have travelled extensively throughout the Philippines this article is quite poor. Why does he highlight Mactan Island seeing the beaches are man made and then forget to mention the likes of Bantayan Island and the Camotes Islands amongst others in the province. He also describes Cebu Island as banana-shaped when it isn't and that the boat trip to Malapascua Island takes ten minutes from the mainland when it doesn't. :doh

And like Steve mentions, he criminally forgets Alona Beach along with Puerto Galera, which has over thirty beaches to choose from, but instead brings up Baler which is more of a surfing destination, and Camiguin, which apart from the sandbar is not renowned for its beaches because of the volcanic black sand. :anerikke:
