View Full Version : Registering with a doctor

So went along to the big health practice that is walking distance from me today (my doctor's is 10 minutes in a car).

Asked about registering Harlene and of course they wanted to see her visa etc etc... The only problem we have is her proof of address. I explained she is almost 7 months' pregnant and as such would need to see a GP ASAP when she arrives.

Anyway, they asked me to fill out forms and said they preferred I was also a patient with them too. I agreed as I never liked my doctor's as it is basically his house with the downstairs as a surgery.

So we have to go along once Harlene is here and show her documents and make appointments for the both of us for a health check up.

I explained it will take time to get proof of address, but she kept insisting that they need it before they register us....

So what is the best and quickest way?

Why not apply for a Bank account as you just need to be 18 and a permanent UK resident.

What sort of evidence of accommodation did you supply for her whilst applying for her visa Slip?

I just provided my house deeds and council tax etc...

It's not for me, I have more proof then needed for myself... It is getting proof that Harlene lives at this address.... I tried to open a bank account online, but they say she needs to have been here 12 months!

It was a no go, popped in today, despite the website saying a passport would be fine. I was told they need proof of address, as did the doctor when we tried to register......

So going to try to get her added to my utilities bill.

Hi Anne.

Thanks for the reply Slip. I'm just wondering why my husband told me that the electric/water company won't allow my name to be added in the bill. I've recently been granted my 1st FLR and the only proofs of address I presented were letters from Tesco, Boots, Nectar and Amazon. I'm waiting for my Biometric Residence Permit at the moment for me to be able to process my NI number

I should have added they will want to speak to you to see you are ok with your name being added to the bill. Well my supplier Southern electric did.
